I know he probably has presidential aspirations just like his father, but does anyone see a scenario where he runs for governor instead in 2015?  Or, is it more likely that he waits to see what happens with 2016 and try for 2019?

Don't see it happening and I really couldn't imagine it.

Kentucky is firmly in the hands of Democrats at the statewide level, not as much as in national elections, which includes Senatorial elections.

Basically, the offices not affiliated with the federal government are safely Democratic and the offices affiliated with the federal government are likely Republican.

Maybe, maybe, if Kentucky moves its state-wide elections to Presidential years. I believe that's being considered or something.

Obviously right now anything Rand Paul is able to do is contingent on him getting past this plagiarism thing.

Rand Paul sees this post, and says "hey, that gives me a good idea...."

Rand Paul sees this post, and says "hey, that gives me a good idea...."

And when a reporter asks him if he's considering a run for Governor he says: "Maybe, maybe, if Kentucky moves its state-wide elections to Presidential years. I believe that's being considered or something."

If he does, I'm sure he'll have to take a page out of Steve Beshear's playbook (or, you know, all the pages).

Haha, sorry. I was making a "Rand Paul loves plagiarism" joke.

Senator Paul's major problem is he has limited appeal - he won in Kentucky as the GOP nominee because enough tea party libertarians voted for him in 2010. His approval ratings there seem to show people are divided about him.

Rand Paul doesn't strike me as an executive type. I think he wants to be Senator then run for President.

Isn't being president being an executive (except its the nation instead of a state)?

The presidency is a special case, because it's so prestigious that almost any politician would like to get it if they could, regardless of their preferences for legislating. Governor and Senator, however, are approximately equally prestigious for a medium-sized state.

Rand Paul thinks he's saving liberty and preventing the impending collapse of society and such. I don't really see how a gubernatorial run fits into that. When he runs and loses in 2016 he'll probably start a think tank or a PAC. Maybe he'll run for McConnell's seat when he finally retires.

Trust me, he'll have enough trouble getting reelected to the Senate.

Who knows? It's three years out.

Why do something that as of now favors him for something that might not?

Bandit has always had this strangely optimistic streak when it comes to electoral politics.

Uh, I'm the biggest pessimist around regarding electoral politics.

I think we can all agree that Rand Paul is more likely to get reelected than McConnell.

I guess I don't agree, McConnell is like Jason or Freddy, just when you think he's dead he pops up again.

Rand, otoh, has a certain attitude, like he's doing the people a favor by being Senator.

But remember, Rand isn't up for reelection for another three years. That's plenty of time for the things Rand Paul has been warning about to start to happen. Plus, I would love to see Rand debate ANY democrat (or any republican for that matter) on ANY issue. The only way I could see Rand losing his Senate seat in 2016 is if he somehow loses his primary (which could happen if the establishment repubs manage to knock him off and replace him with another rino).
