It's well documented that he was beginning to reverse course on Vietnam.  He'd even begun to withdraw the "military advisers" already there before his assassination.  I'm unable to understand why there so many assumptions that he was planning to take the exact same course in Vietnam that LBJ did except for a primitive assumption that anything Kennedy did was wrong.
