Dear Atlasia,

I hope this message finds you well. To those of you who once knew me, I hope you have a good few years. To those that don't I'm named after a small bit of Maryland, or perhaps its the other way around.

I'm posting today because this online sim, the Republic of Atlasia, is approaching a whole 10 years old. I don't think many sims last that long, and its good to see that this section of the forum remains as vibrant and exciting as it did many years ago when I was an active poster. Its a big milestone and I'm hoping that there can be some marking of this - I would be interested to be contacted by posters to help organise something.....

EDIT: Sorry I should have said - this is one of the earliest threads I can find on the subject. Not sure when the technical anniversary should be taken as, 2 January, or whatever date in February Nym was first elected.

Thank you, and welcome back to the forum, Peter. Smiley

I wonder how we should celebrate the 10-year anniversary...

It feels we already have, Duke/Matt electionslide, the Space Program, Democratic-Republicans' organization, etc.

Read the link. I'm pretty sure ilikeverin, Al, and Lewis Trondheim were here in Atlas's beginnings as well, but I don't know how early.

I'm just throwing this out there, and I'm not even sure if I would support it, but what about the statute reboot idea?

So you want to celebrate 10 years....by erasing everything that was done in those 10 years.

Well, when you look at it from that angle… Tongue I don't even think I would support unless someone gave a compelling argument. Does anyone have any better ideas?

How about something that anything that doesn't erase the legacy of Atlasia. Like literally anything. Tongue

It'd be better to do something a less indiscriminate. Atlasia's history enriches gameplay, and we'd risk losing a lot of value (and a lot of interest) by starting over.

Maxwell and I put together a bill repealing over two dozen outdated laws about a month ago, and I wrote a bill this spring repealing any legislation not included on the wiki's Statute page (which became law this summer under Senator Yankee's stewardship). We should always be looking back on what's been accomplished before us, doing whatever we can to improve, correct, or celebrate it.

There's a lot more work of this nature to be done at the federal and regional levels, but it requires a mindfulness of the game's past that many people don't have the patience for. The future usually seems more exciting to most of us.

Heh, cleaning up the regional statute was probably a majority of what I accomplished as Emperor. There is certainly a lot of work to be done in that regard.

I think the people who want to abolish formal party registration should take a look at ilikeverin's post. Before there regions and offices and legislation, there were parties.

Elections and parties have always been at the heart of this game.  I couldn't agree more.

I just came across this now.  I'd be happy to offer my support for memorial services and celebrations, tell stories about the genesis events, etc.

I tend to agree. If such were to be done at all, it would have to be a partial one along the lines of what I have been discussing as a means to draw attention to elections for both the Regions and thE Federal Gov't.
