Grand Island, Grit- Greetings, fellow Midwesterners! Today, I had the pleasure to announce my candidacy for Midwestern Assemblyman as a member of the Labor Party! Our region is growing and prospering, and I figure I can do my part in helping the Midwest progress. Better late than never. I am an ardent supporter of workers' rights and the unions that represent them. Income inequality and poverty still plague our society, and need to be combated. In addition, I side strongly against infringements upon our civil liberties. Ultimately, I believe in a fairer and freer Midwest and with your support, I can serve in the interests of the common man and woman in our great region.

Endorsements from the Midwest:

Senator TNF
Archduke windjammer

Endorsements from outside the region:

Progressive Union
Pacific Councillor Flo
Acting Governor PJ (for 2nd place Tongue)

I'm not from the Midwest, but you have my theoretical endorsement for 2nd preference. Smiley

It's great to see you running for office, good luck in the election!

That said, I have a question: What are your views on the dual names of the Midwest (including ilikeverin and GAworth's bills) and the constitutional amendments I sent to the Althing?

On the issue of provincial names, I’d support GAworth’s Dual Name of Province’s Bill. I’m cool with folks using the new names or the old ones.

I am against your New Capitol Amendment. I don’t see any reason why Cheezwhiz shouldn’t remain our capital. I think the Redefining Roles Amendment is a good idea, as is the New Governor Amendment. As for the your Changing the Depositaren Amendment, I still like Cheezwhiz as the Most Serene Republic’s capital. But I like ilikeverin’s amendment to change our current yurt Depositaren into a permanent yurt-shaped building.

Grand Island, Grit

Hello fellow citizens of the Midwest!

I’m glad to remind everybody that I am running for reelection in this month’s January Althing elections. I realize that some criticize my activity levels during the first part of my term. For the past few months, much of my time has been directed towards IRL issues such as schoolwork, my job, and the ever-demanding High School Speech season. However, I’m working on tackling this and putting considerably more time and effort into the Midwest. I am happy to say that my activity levels are increasing as of lately, and I certainly hope to continue this if I am reelected.

During my term, I’ve worked together with my fellow colleagues GAWorth and Cris in continuous displays of tripartisanship. Though I’m not afraid to cooperate, I still hold strong leftist and socialist views. Recently, I’ve introduced a bill that would give financial assistance to workers’ cooperatives. It’s only one checkmark off my legislative to-do list.

I anticipate on ending my first term on a good note, but hopefully with your support I can continue my work into a second term.

Thank you.

Hello once again to my constituents!

I've only been Archduke of the Midwest for a couple of weeks since my appointment and subsequent election. Now, I haven't had the opportunity to gather much experience, but already I have faced some trouble in moderating Althing discussions. Though there aren't many official regulations regarding the powers of the Archduke, this absence of official regulations allows flexibility and experimentation. But to clarify my powers, I shall be enforcing the following rules:

-The Althing has 24 hours to vote on whether or not to adopt an amendment to a bill. The Archduke may intervene in the event of a tie.
-If no vote is reached, the amendment is automatically passed.
-A final version of a bill will be presented when a vote is called.

For any potential input and suggestions, feel free to send me a PM. Thank you.

Sincerely,
Arturo Belano, Archduke of the Most Serene Republic of the Midwest.
