Let's say Southern California splits from the rest of California during the Great Depression. The same changes happen to the state as they have in the "real world" (population growth, ethnic changes, economic changes) but the state is now split in two starting in San Luis Obispo.

How do you think the new state of Southern California would have voted in every election from 1932-2012?

I would personally divide Northern and Southern California by the Hight of Land originating in the Crest of the Sierra Nevada and terminating either at Point Conception or Moro Rock, and find any division which ignores the significant natural barrier of the Tehachapi Mountains somewhat silly
