I'd rather wait a bit until first-run manufacturing issues are ironed out and a lot of the network issues have calmed down after all the traffic slows down a bit, but when I do buy a new console, it will certainly be the one that is cheaper and more powerful.

OUCH!  I suppose it makes sense....they have to protect their own video game industry.

Yeah, if anything, I'll be getting a PS4. I feel Microsoft dropped the ball hard on this one.

Yeah, so.. I got a PS3 a year and a half ago. I'm a bit slow with this sort of thing. I prefer my cutting edge technology to be dulled. I'd rather get a new PC, but.. Windows 8. Microsoft has a pattern of alternating between awful and wonderful. Or I could just stick Ubuntu on there. What were we talking about?

You can still buy PCs with Win 7.

edit-or build your own (it's not hard) and put on whatever you like...cheaper too

edit2-hell, you don't even need a case

I was on the diy pc bandwagon back in the day, and then I turned an expensive cpu into a paperweight by inserting it incorrectly and bending all the pins. After finding a magnifying glass and some tweezers and cursing under my breath for an hour, I realized it would be a better use of my time to just shop around and find a decent pc and then replace a few bits and kill the preloaded software bloat manually. I am much more comfortable with software than hardware.

Besides, to the best of my knowledge it isn't that cheaper, especially here. America has great component variety and accessibility. Here? Not so much.

By the way, that is a beautiful setup in a way. Redneck solutions aren't aesthetically pleasing but they do make the brain grin.

UGGG, that sucks.  I've somehow managed to avoid doing that.

I'm the exact opposite.  I get by on the software side, because I have to, but I'd much rather replace a video card than an OS...or Og forbid, dick with IRQ settings...I"m glad those days are behind us.

Wonder why that is....you're closer to where they make most of the things that go into PCs except for CPUs.

It was the wife's PC until she got a new one a couple of years ago and it had overheating issues when it was in a case, so I took it out.  It makes it easy to clean, but quick to get dirty.  Hopefully I'll be able to afford a new rig next summer after my child support obligations expire.  I can just barely play BF4 competitively with it as is.

I'm planning on getting one after I graduate from grad school in May. It will be a long wait, but I don't need any more distraction!
