Actually, I sort of think of Schumacher as a German version of you, politically.  A staunchly socialist ideology wrapped in the flag of his country.

Doubt we'll be seeing SPD any better than this, comrade. Wink

I voted FDP, but on second thoughts that would be conditional in getting Adenauer into power, and if i thought it wouldn't, CDU/CSU.

Difficult to choose between Schumacher and Adenauer, two great politicians.

This is 1949, so it does make sense.

Hilarious results thus far.  Might I just reiterate one more time that the FDP has tons of unrepentant ex-Nazis in it?

It's leader Heuss is a definite FF, though so is Adenauer so I might change my vote.

Heuss isn't leading it in this election.  Blücher is.  Heuss stepped down pretty early on.

As we vote.  The SPD is certain to become the largest party at this point.  I'm waiting to see a tie-breaking vote between the Union and the FDP.

Whoops voted Center instead of CDU/CSU. I saw Center and failed to notice CDU/CSU existed already at this point. I suppose it's possible I would have voted Center still, but CDU/CSU would probably be a more meaningful ballot to cast.

Oh thanks for pointing that out... I'm not used to people giving that option on polls here Smiley

Now I voted  CDU/CSU.

This surprises me.  It doesn't seem to me like the FDP platform would provide a natural home for ex-Nazis, is there any particular reason for this?

It's quite bizarre.  I guess it was the only major party which would take them (though there were also plenty in the CDU, though they did more to pretend they weren't guilty of collaborating with the regime).

I suspect a lot of this is people voting for he current FDP, i.e. socially liberal right wingers. If you made a modern German election with CDU/CSU, SPD, FDP and KPD, the results would be pretty similar I imagine.

Excellent news.

C'mon leftists; we can't have Schumacher die before he has any chance of power.

Kind of surprised at how well KPD is doing. I know there's a couple commies on the board, but who are the others? It's not like SPD has gone 3rd way on you guys yet Tongue
