A new party, the Hawaii Independent Party, successfully petitioned for ballot access. It sounds like one of their motivating factors was to draft Hannemann.

I'm not quite sure what they are thinking; there platform is basically saying, "Hawaii should secede from the union". I doubt they have much of a chance. Mufi has been on a loosing streak, lately, too.

Ige and Abercrombie are tied at 37%; according to a Civil Beat poll:

Doubt he stands much a chance against Aiona.

Aiona is running for Governor, not LG.

Indeed, I mis-typed.

Ugh, please, not another 2010. -___-

They've primaried each other before, but all this will do is take votes away from Abercrombie in HI-1 (considering how unpopular he is) and possibly give Republicans a real shot at winning this for Aiona like Djou had against Hanabusa and Case.

I'm staying behind Abercrombie though. Hanneman's a conservative bigot on gay and reproductive rights.

I hate Neil Abercrombie so this is great news for me. But hopefully David Ige primaries Abercrombie's ass off first.

Imagine if all three of Ige, Hanabusa and Mercado Kim win their races Smiley

Abercrombie I don't care too much about, but ugh, Mercado Kim and Hanabusa.

F**k Mufi Hanneman (R-HI)

I support Abercrombie, but wouldn't mind Ige as governor either. I support Schatz on ideological principles. Mercado Kim is not a good Democrat though, let alone representative

I actually don't care about Abercrombie. I'm supporting Ige for strategic reasons.

Schatz I'm supporting but I wouldn't hate it if Hanabusa won. Mercado Kim though...she should just be a Republican.

I quite honestly think that Abercrombie is going to be a one-term governor either way. He's either going to lose to David Ige and the Governor's Mansion stays Democratic, or he's going to win the primary and lose badly to Duke Aiona. I'm hoping for a primary loss.

I honestly would be a far better governor than any of those clowns.  I'm certainly more educated, eloquent, and with better ideas than any of them.  The culture on these islands is so insular that it pushes to the top the most stupid people.

The polls don't seem to suggest that, as Ige trails Aiona even worse than Abercrombie does. An before anyone says the polls in Hawaii suck - In 2010's Gubernatorial Election: PPP totally blew it, but Rasmussen had it right, which is pretty much the reverse of any other state.

I won't guess the primary outcome but I will guess that the Democratic victor will be north of 50.

Obama is also helping Abercrombie, cutting a radio ad for him.

The most recent debate. It actually starts around the 20-minute mark.

Birthers must hate Abercrombie since he remembers Obama's birth in Hawaii.

FWIW, the LG race for the Democratic nomination is about tied:

Hawaii will probably go from toss up status to at least a lean D status now.
