My grandmother, who died at age 99.

Below is a pic of my great grandmother taken on her 100th birthday in 1945 (before my time).

My great grandma died this March about a month being 100. Apparently it's a family tradition to be born in February....

My Great Grandpa Buchanan (Dad's grandpa) died just a couple months shy of his 101st birthday in 1985, 3 years after I was born.

I'm not really sure.  He died when I was only three and I have never inquired about him from Dad.

That's astounding!  You really have to learn more about the family history.  Do you ever talk with your grandmother about those who have gone before?

I only have one grandmother still living, she is on my mother's side, and I do talk to her frequently about my ancestors.

My late grandmother was 88. I don't know my great-grandmothers age, but I think she 90 when she died in 2002. I am sure I have met scores of people in their nineties now, but I don't know anyone personally who has made it past 88-90ish. I may or may not have met my grandmother's Uncle who died at the age of 99, but if I did, I don't remember him.

My other grandmother is 72 and still has an Aunt who is living, but I never met her. Her aunt is only a few years older than her and recently remarried at the age of 86. Another Aunt of hers was 102 and died last year. Again, I never met her.

My friend's wife has a great-grandfather who is only in his early eighties, which means their young son will grow up with a great-great grandpa in his life. Kinda interesting.

My great aunt's best friend's mother was 103 when she died.  When I'd go out to visit them, we'd take trips up to Lancaster, PA to take her out to lunch.  She was one of the nicest people I've ever met and had some pretty interesting stories.

My great-grandma was either 100 or 101 when she died (there's some debate over her actual age... she wasn't really in a good frame of mind to give a proper answer during the last five years or so, and the conflicting information came up during that period). She died August 2nd, 2005, when I was 12. Saw her many times.

Both of my maternal great-grandmothers died at 96 in 1988 and 1990 - I was closest to 'Grandma' my grandfather's mother (and my mother's favourite) who was born in 1892 in Junee, country NSW, she was virtually blind by the time I can remember her but I do recall going to her nursing home as a small child and she always had a particular lolly that I still love to this day (Pascal eclairs for the Australians) and I insisted on sitting next to her at Christmas (the last one being 1987, when I was four).

She had a fascinating life, there's a letter from her to the Prime Minister in the War Memorial records demanding her husband be returned from the war, since it was now over and one of her favourite past-times was heckling Robert Menzies at political meetings.

Three of my grandparents made it into their early 90s, dying while I was a child.

(Being the baby of the family and having parents who were the babies of their families meant my great grandaparents would have had to be supercentenarians for me have even had a chance to know them.

All of my family members died before their ninth decade, my grandfather has lived the longest, being 80.

Other than that the oldest person I knew personally was a 91 year old woman who volunteered with us a lot. She is such a sweet person and she's turning 92 next week!

I'm sort of in that boat. My mother was born when my grandfather was 46. I knew him but he was already 75 when I was born. I never would've had a prayer to meet my great-grandparents. They died in 1950 and 1960 respectively. My great-grandfather was born in 1875 and he died in 1950 and my great-grandmother was born in 1872.
