Both of my maternal great-grandmothers died at 96 in 1988 and 1990 - I was closest to 'Grandma' my grandfather's mother (and my mother's favourite) who was born in 1892 in Junee, country NSW, she was virtually blind by the time I can remember her but I do recall going to her nursing home as a small child and she always had a particular lolly that I still love to this day (Pascal eclairs for the Australians) and I insisted on sitting next to her at Christmas (the last one being 1987, when I was four).

She had a fascinating life, there's a letter from her to the Prime Minister in the War Memorial records demanding her husband be returned from the war, since it was now over and one of her favourite past-times was heckling Robert Menzies at political meetings.
