It's 1860 and Abraham Lincoln has won the Republican nomination, on an anti-slavery platform... The Democrats are able to unite behind Jefferson Davis, a Senator from Mississippi....

With a united Democratic Party could Davis, defeat Lincoln?

I'm guessing a fairly even North-South split, which means an easy Lincoln victory, likely a popular majority as well. I guess it'd be a combination of Lincoln's and Douglas' votes against Breckenridge's and Bell's. Maybe this?

Former Congressman Abraham Lincoln (R-NY)/Senator Hannibal Hamlin (R-ME) 189 electoral votes
Senator Jefferson Davis of Mississippi (D-MS)/Vice President John Breckenridge (D-KY) 114 electoral votes

Single most polarized election in the nation's history.

Similar to Cathcon's where Davis carries all Breckenridge states, but California might flip Democratic since Lincoln won it by a very narrow margin because the vote between Douglas/Breckenridge was split and Missouri would go to Davis as well since Douglas carried that. Lincoln would still win though.

Congressman Abraham Lincoln (R-IL)/Senator Hannibal Hamlin (R-ME) - 176 EVs
Senator Jefferson Davis (D-MS)/Congressman Alexander Stephens (D-GA) - 127 EVs

Davis of Mississippi runs with VP Nominee Daniel Dickinson of New York, supporting Southern rights while opposing secession.  They retain most of the Northern Democrats, but some supporters of popular sovereignty will not go for a candidate favorable to Dred Scott and its threat to state bans on slavery.  Some of these vote for Lincoln, while others support the Constitutional Union Party, home of former Whigs and Know-Nothings in the South as well as those who believe both Democrats and Republicans threaten to tear the nation asunder.  The Republicans win the presidency while losing the popular vote (Lincoln receives few votes in the South).

Rep. Abraham Lincoln (R-IL)/Sen. Hannibal Hamlin (R-ME)   42%  176

Sen. Jefferson Davis (D-MS)/ Fmr. Sen. Daniel S. Dickinson (D-NY)  44% 115
Fmr. Sen. John Bell (CU-TN)/Fmr. Gov. Edward Everett (CU-MA)  14% 12
