September 14, 2016 - Wall Street Journal endorses Christie economic plan, says Cuomo not realistic

NEW YORK, NY - While the Wall Street Journal did not endorse either presidential candidate, they did say Chris Christie had a superior economic plan to that of Andrew Cuomo's. "Mr. Christie's $1.1 trillion tax cut is off-set by a closure of $700 billion in loopholes, plus another $400 billion in savings simply by his proposed changes to social security and reducing the federal workforce by a third by the year 2019. Combined with his plan to scrap a decade's worth of regulations and to repeal Obamacare, we believe that Americans could see between 2 and 4 million jobs by the year 2020. By contrast, Mr. Cuomo has not been realistic. He's proposed a $700 billion tax cut for those making under $150,000 per year. He says he'd pay for it by increasing taxes on the top 2% of Americans through a rate increase from 39% to 41%. But, Mr. Cuomo has also proposed new spending for education, women's health, infrastructure, farmers, green technology, and medicaid. In all, he has proposed $675 billion over a decade in new spending, and that's after his tax plan is taken into effect. His medicaid expansion plan could cost another $300 billion on top of that. The only way he can balance the budget is using accounting gimmicks, which his campaign has utilized" the journal stated.

Hrrm. I hope the timeline won't be a total Republican-lovefest. It would be a shame - I like the detail.

I don't think it's turning into a GOP wank quite yet. It's a good timeline, just have a few issues with it:

  • I could see Manchin cross-endorsing, but Graham and Bayh would never endorse Christie over Cuomo. Cuomo's fairly centrist/moderate heroish himself, plus all three of them are New Democrats. Two of the party's founders would never betray one of their own.
  • You only briefly go over two races (and don't even tell us how one turns out) for Senate. I'd like to see more of it - I'm wondering if Christie's moderate credentials could carry a few purple staters and even Kirk.
  • Just a few leadership issues. Blackburn would never ascend to Speakership - McCarthy's seen as the heir apparent, and if they want a woman, they have McMorris Rodgers, who already beat her for a leadership post. I have a bit of trouble seeing the Dems nominate McCaskill, who's arguably the most vulnerable Senator in 2018.

"Andrew Cuomo has won Illinois, our exit polling has him at 63% in Barack Obama's home state"

I find it hard to believe that Cuomo would win 63% of Illinois when in 2008 Illinois's Favorite Son Obama could only win 62% of the vote in a decisive D victory overall.

But otherwise an awesome thread.
