One of my favourite posters. Great politics, great debating, and little to no name calling. FF

Despite having me on ignore and having pretty awful politics, he is a presence on this forum and I respect him for that. Voted FF.

I thought you'd be happy for him as he found a good job (at their Ministry of Propaganda), but I guess you're just mean-spirited Sad

I was perfectly ok with this thread never being made. Tongue

Not realistic and naively idealistic.

Would you care to elaborate? I don't see things that I way, obviously. I think I'm fairly realistic about things. I'm well aware that I've painted myself into a corner with no real way out on this forum, that most of my beliefs won't ever be acted upon, that I've grown bitter and cynical, that there are many losing battles I take upon, and that I'm a very hard to like person. I think I'm very idealistic about some things, even things that no one else cares about or understands or agrees with, but I wouldn't use the word naïve. I generally know when I'm being unrealistic or out there. Still, I suppose I could be wrong with that. We don't see eye-to-eye on many things afleitch, but that doesn't mean that I blindly dismiss what you have to say.

Dropped considerably following his Dubai post.

Eh, I knew I was going out on a limb there. It's true that I like Dubai, but it's mostly a relic of another time in my life and the world really. It's a simplistic view I took then, but I felt that a lot of people in that thread were taking equally simplistic views. Is Dubai one of the greatest cities in the world? Probably not; it doesn't have the history or any number of other things, but there was a time in my life before I knew about its issues when it inspired me. If that's wrong, well then I suppose I'm wrong. We can't always be right about everything. Take solace in that I don't matter at all in the grand scheme of things; heck, I'll probably never even visit Dubai.

Am I a HP? Maybe. I feel like one sometimes. Sometimes it's fun to be the villain. Sometimes it's fun to be the saint. I don't see the point in posting meaningless posts agreeing with people all the time--anyone can do that, and others can do it better than I can--but eventually the mask becomes the face, and I don't know who I am anymore.

I do like and respect him, although I get the feeling he trolls a bit to upset people. That said, he's an intelligent person who I think means well. I do wish his religiously motivated views would take different priorities sometimes, with things such as social justice outweighing relatively trivial social issues.

I have always liked him, and considered him a very pleasant guy who I identify with in certain, weird ways. Despite the Dubai post not exactly being one of his best moments, I would still be quite sad if he ever left the forum. I greatly, greatly adore his earnestness.

(Though seriously, that Dubai post was dumb.)

It's not realistic to simply note that about yourself (which you have before) and not act to change it. Who want's to be bitter and cynical at such an age? You didn't use to be. I've never seen someone whose been on the forum as long as you have, close themselves off almost with resignation from so much when everyone else becomes more open to different concepts.

FF. A great guy I have a lot of respect for and just because your beliefs will never during your lifetime be acted upon by society doesn't necessitate in the slightest a need to be cynical, though we all will be on occasion.

I have a positive opinion of him and like that he brings a communitarian, Christian democratic perspective to the forum that - with all due respect to conservative blue avatar folk - wouldn't otherwise be done justice. Voted FF even though we disagree on many an issue.

I dont agree with him but he's a pretty civil and thoughtful dude. Though I think I remember some of his views being pretty repugnant, I'm sure any of us could find something we don't like about anyone else if we tried to.

Not realistic and naively idealistic.
