Opinion of the sadly overlooked architect of apartheid's end?

I don't think he is particlary overlooked, given all the recognition he got, including Nobel Peace Prize. Though Mandela is better known, obviously.

De Klerk is a good example of a man who came from the very heart of the system to realize there's a need for a radical change. This is especially notable, given that before succeeding Botha he was considered to belong to the conservative Apartheid wing.

Due to what he did, an FF for sure.

I voted FF but in reality he was neither, but his actions place him as a FF.

I said he was overlooked largely because he will probably be a forgotten figure within a few years, which is a shame really since De Klerk was the man who was probably most responsible for ending apartheid (Mandela I think is more important when it comes to cementing and stabilising  the post 1994 set up, which is obviously no mean thing).

FF, hands down the best leader of apartheid-era South Africa.

Especially considering that he wasn't known as a verligte before becoming NP leader.

Both

According to Wikipedia, he lives in an all white community, with 5 non-white servants. I suppose that is typical for wealthy white South Africans though.

When I lived in South Africa, it wasn't even a wealthy white person thing. Most of the middle class people in my neighbourhood had a servant or two.

Actually it seems you're forgetting Mandela's work after his release yet before Presidency.
