FF as well! Have you tried it with heavy cream(like the type used in Tea & Coffee) added too? It only adds to it's deliciousness

Great with a little brown sugar - just enough to sweeten it, and I use soy. If you get adventurous and like peanut butter, try a little peanut butter with it.

I prefer malt-o-meal to oatmeal with brown sugar, butter, and milk.

I much prefer using oats in other things... like oatmeal chocolate chip cookies or oatmeal spice cake (it's so moist that it's almost wet) with cream cheese frosting...

But the actual gold standard in hot breakfast cereal is:

Done up the same as oatmeal or malt-o-meal, it's the best on frigid winter mornings with coffee and orange juice.

You know those ads where a group of women are sitting around a table having a cup of tea talking sh**t about a product like yogurt or bloating or yogurt (it's always yogurt) like it's a normal conversation to be..  just ..having? This thread feels like that.

And as for me, my bloating (graphic of a rhinoceros pushing an anvil between her hips) only seems to go after I've had some oatmeal topped with delicious, creamy yogurt! (rhinoceros deflates like a balloon and a sigh is heard)

What is this "brown sugar" and "butter" nonsense?!  The proper topping for oatmeal is always and forever maple syrup, tree-gunk of the gods:

With maybe some dried cranberries and/or cinnamon if you wanna get fancy.  (And yes it's better if you make it with milk, but that's not a requirement.)

Brown sugar is just a pale imitation, and don't get me wrong I appreciate buttery grits but that just ain't right with oats.

^This. The only brown sugar involved in oatmeal is if it's already flavoured that way. Even then, I'd still add a bit of syrup.

I also think honey is an acceptable addition, though that tends to be better with cream of wheat.

It should be left to stand, of course.
