Hubert Humphrey/Ted Kennedy-319 EVs 44.3%
Richard Nixon/Spiro Agnew-179 EVs 42.3%
George Wallace/Curtis LeMay-45 EVs 13.4%

Played as Humphrey. Campaigned on a pro-Great Society, anti-Vietnam War and moderate civil rights platform. I opposed busing but I supported other liberal policies like ending the war and expanding Medicare. Also trounced Nixon in a debate.

Has anybody managed to throw the election to the House in the 1968 campaign? I put it on easy with Lemay and Thurmond as my VP and am running a super hawkish neo fascist campaign and taking a hard line on desegregation etc. I keep campaigning in NC and I can't for the life of me win any state other than the historical 5 that Wallace won, I can never stop a Nixon victory.

Pick Chandler as your running mate, run hard to the right on Vietnam, desegregation, and other social issues while taking a more moderately conservative tack on economics. This usually gets me a deadlock more often than not.

I will give it a try, I was never sure on how to deal with the Great Society and economics in general.

God damn North Carolina in 1968 is so damn stubborn. As Wallace, I say everything that a north Carolinian would support, and I still lose the damn state.

I have a question. Is it possible for Johnson or Stein to get EVS in 2012? I doubt it, but there is a counter, so it kinda throws me off. Tongue

Almost certainly not. I just ran a campaign where I ran Obama far to the right like he was possessed by George Wallace's ghost and neither Johnson or Stein could crack a full % of the vote. Those counters are probably there just for the sake of being there.

The 2012 produces some odd scenarios in blowouts: Obama wins Tennessee before Georgia, Arizona, South Carolina, or the Dakotas. Romney wins in New York/Washington before Connecticut, Oregon, or New Jersey.

Rendezvous with Tricky Dick

Candidate   Electoral Votes   Popular Votes   Popular Vote %
---- Richard Nixon   405   33,009,113   44.9%
---- Hubert H. Humphrey   79   29,739,997   40.5%
---- George Wallace   53   10,752,198   14.6%

I ran with Ronald Reagan as my VP choice with a moderate conservative law and order campaign.  I emphasized "accountability", attacked inflation, took a very strong stance on the riots, took a moderate position on Affirmative Action and busing, said I would keep troop levels in Vietnam at current levels while pursuing peace, said that Johnson handled the war wrong but Tet Offensive was bad for the Viet Cong, etc. etc. etc.  I had a pretty good lead in many Midwest states before we sabotaged the Peace Talks, which might've helped with the landslide.
