I doubt this would have even happened under Mbeki. Zuma has really run the party into the ground.

Mbeki was anti-science and caused the death of thousands in his country with his AIDS-denialism.

Mbeki was many things, and one of them was competent. Zuma has given little indication of the same being true of him.

Here we go, let the Apartheid apologism begin. I was wondering when it would start.

Two wrongs don't make a right.

Yeah, but one of these two wrongs is clearly much wronger than the other.

Agreed.  The wrong of the ANC is not nearly as bad as the wrong of attributing all criticism of them to a love of apartheid.

I'd support the DA if I were South African, but the ANC would not even make the top 10 list of incompetent governments.  Zuma and Mbeki may not hold a candle to Mandela in terms of leadership abilities, but things in SA could have been a whole lot worse under the circumstances.

South Africa is a failed state run by incompetent fools who should let 'competent'/'civilized' people run the country amirite??!!!

You support the ANC?

No, of course not, but I hope you realize that thinking SA is not a 'failed state' and basket case =/= supporting the ANC. Although admittedly, the white specialists brigade and their disgusting comments on SA make it tempting to back the ANC.

And the idea that Mbeki was in any way a good president is laughable. Get a clue people.

Edit:
More to the point, black literacy rates also increased quite substantially during the apartheid era. No one is denying that apartheid wasn't a nice system, but the ANC cannot be absolved of its failures in government by waving the bloody shirt of apartheid.

Exactly; and Mandela would probably have agreed.

You dislike the ANC (Zuma era, Mbeki era and you have reservations about the Mandela era) IFP, COPE, apartheid leaders, pre-apartheid leaders, and the DA. For someone who is so interested in South African politics, you sure don't seem to like any of them!

You're missing the point. Hash doesn't have a positive opinion of anything or anyone belonging to any country's political class, and, frankly, who could blame him ?

Personally, I never suggested that the RSA is a failed state.  I've not been shy to point out the huge differences between Mandel and Mbeki/Zuma. But the RSA is still better than most African countries.

Some oped in the Ottawa Sun (perhaps it should be known as the Orania Sun) today by some white guy was implicitly praising apartheid. After the obligatory praise for Mandela using the patented faux sympathy (to make sure nobody can call him racist), he continues by saying that "he left a country internationally notorious for murder, rape, AIDS, poverty, carjackings, unemployment, corruption and racial division" and then "there are black leaders who argue that their people, [...], were economically better off under apartheid". He justifies this absurd claims with even more absurd arguments like unemployment, Marikana, housing, "weak economic policy", a ''disastrous'' foreign policy and the like.

I felt like throwing up.

If South Africa ever was a failed state it was before 1989. Come on, how can one respect a country with a leader named either BJ or Pee Wee?

Looking at Kal's sig, it looks like F...tardism is universal. To a certain extent it's a relief. A Spanish footballer -I think Levante's goalkeeper- thought that Mandela was a member of the Hollywood Star System called Freeman.

The idiot offered his sympathy to the actor via Twitter. Needless to say the following day he was the laughingstock. It's one of Twitter's disadvantages, the network is a magnificent tool to say stupidities (and nobody is safe while using it).

A link to this article by Mr. Streicher (since I want to judge how insane your overreaction is)?

It is pretty hard to not feel like throwing up after reading anything in the editorial section of the Ottawa Sun.
