I cut my own hair, and have for the last four years. (Before that my sister would cut it) I make a thorough cut every 10-11 weeks, and trim the edges about once every 4-5 weeks.

I might buy myself a bag of chips if  I feel generous. It's very cost effective.

I get it cut every 5 weeks by a fabulous man I've known since I was a boy.

I wait until my hair and beard are so unappealing that my mother can't stand it anymore and pays for the ensuing haircut.  I have to go to a different place every time because my grandfather always ends up hating the person who cuts his hair and refuses to go back there.

By mentioning your grandfather and implying he's of relevance in this story, I'm assuming that he's the one who drives you to get the haircut?

I just go to a major salon chain at the mall near my work. I don't have a specific person I go to, I just ask to see whoever's available next. Usually runs about $30-35 sans tip.

I get it cut when the hair at the back starts to curl up. So about every three months. Should do it more often, but...

As for where, the barbers, of course. I don't get or want a style cut, just a basic gentleman's cut, so why not go to the guy who has done that cut tens of thousands of times? Anyway, $20 on Monday or Tuesday, $25 Wednesday to Friday. Not sure what it is on weekends, the line is always far too long Tongue

Once a month or something. About $20 for a haircut, $30 if I'm cutting the beard too. Old Italian guy does it for me.

I drive him.  he's 83 and hasn't been able to drive for 2-3 years.

I usually pay about 120-200 baht here - about $4-6 at the 'fancy salons'.  The regular barber is only 40-60 baht, but most don't wash your hair and use those horrible buzzers for at least part of the haircut, even my medium-length style (I insist that my hair be cut only and entirely by scissors or razor).

I do only go about once every 2-3 months.  Would go less often but the job demands it.  (finally I should mention that I sometimes trim the very back along the neck once between cuts - I hate if it gets too long back there).

Have always gone to a proper barbers - there are loads around so it's been the same wherever I've lived - every couple of months or so. Average cost would be about seven quid or so.

What is it with you snobs paying so much for a haircut?

I get my hair cut way, way less often then I "should"- probably three times a year on average.

I go to a Russian barber shop in DUMBO, Brooklyn every month or so.  It's $17 which is a decent price for NYC.  They also a great job and sometimes they give you vodka while you're waiting.

There's one of those old man type places not too far from me in Ditmas Park where a haircut is $12, which is exactly as it should be.

Don't get any vodka though.

My hairdresser is a woman in her late 40s/early 50s who actually used to cut my hair when I was little.  She comes to my house once a month (most recently last week.)  Nice lady.

So the most Minnesotan thing ever happened last time I got my haircut:

Chick was very very nice.  Blond, a little bit chubby, but a cute face.  Never met her before in my life but she looks like late 20s.. so similar age.

I'm not sure if it's a vibe I give off or if I just invite it by being friendly and talking... but she's hacking away and all of the sudden "yeah, I've thought about doing PCA work... but probably not with kids because I just had a miscarriage".

Unsure

Youngish-middle aged woman walks into book store:
Me:  Hi there
Her:  Hi
Me:  Can I help you find something?
Her:  Yeah, I'm looking for books on PTSD
Me:  hmm... any particular type?  We have quite a few for soldiers coming back from war and others too
Her:  I was raped
Me:  Shocked  I'm really sorry to hear that

Sure enough we had a PTSD book about rape.  I asked her if she was okay and getting professional help.  She was.  This was just something extra.  I apologized to her again and she smiled and left.

I have a whole crapload of stories like these.  I'm an empathetic person and I feel for these people... but it gets to be a lot and so I tend to avoid them in the future Sad

So yeah.. I have no idea where my next haircut will come from.  I need to find a guy, maybe.

Well, to be fair we don't spell hair with a trema.  We just put one little dot, right in the middle over the I, so that probably saves a little on the need for trimming.

There's an absolutely phenomenal woman who cuts my hair in Studio City. She finishes with a razor, and give you a nice shoulder massage at the end. I used to get my hair cut every 4-5 weeks, now I do it every 3.

Runs $30 with tip.

I used to go once every 3 to 6 months. Not any barber in particular, just whoever was close.

Now I cut my own hair. I go like 3-4 weeks between cuts nowadays.

My hair dresser is a blonde in her 40's. She usually cuts my hair for free, if I babysit her son.

Mine is a middle-aged woman in her late 40s/early 50s.  She was my hair dresser in grade school, and she took the job again after being recommended by a family friend (what goes around comes around, I guess.)  I give her $25 every month when she comes to my house.
