And it's a no.

Obama rejects Keystone pipeline

Republican frontrunner Donald Trump has already tweeted his disagreement with the decision.

With the liberal government in Canada, it's not really an issue for us to decide at this point.

This. The reason he took so damn long is because if he rejected it under Harper, Harper would have turned around and sold the oil to China. Now Trudeau is likely to kill the project as a whole.

Barack Obama has proven time and time again that his motivations are moving this country away from free market capitalism and failing to build consensus. This decision is purely political, he refuses to work with congress.

I believe it can provide many jobs, especially if we provide construction jobs around the area, as well as with some modifications with the bill, we can get the profits of the oil for american people. Also, it's better to get oil from Canada then the middle-east and Arabian states.

Whatever, it didn't look like it was likely to happen any time soon even if had approved it.

Running a pipeline through an area where farmland and water reserves are is incredibly risky. Environmentally it would be a disaster if there was a spill, as the health effects would likely never go away.

Another meaningless pandering attempt after the fact by Obama. Just like with drilling in Alaska, which he approved and then "opposed" after the oil companies bailed on it, the Keystone was killed by the death of the Tar Sands project and the changes in the oil industry. Obama is just running out in front of the parade and pretending he's leading it.

No one's mentioned that part of The Keystone XL project would have been built over a Native reservation in Montana.

We weren't doing that anyway. Our OPEC purchases were from Ecuador and Venezuela.

No, we do take in oil from the ME, though a fair amount goes to the West Coast.  More importantly, Saudi Arabia is half-owner of a the largest refinery in the US.  Venezuela, Mexico and even Brazil have ownership stakes in US refineries.  Predates the shale boom when importers were looking for ways to protect their market share.  Now, they want part of the lucrative export market of finished products being sold from the US (low NG and NGL prices mean low refining costs).

Weekly imports of oil

You may also note that we get quite a bit of Canadian oil even without the Keystone.

I regret I ever supported this:

The latest Keystone Pipeline oil leak is almost 10 times worse than initially thought

Quote
The amount of land impacted by an oil spill in North Dakota is almost 10 times larger than initially reported, officials say. The disclosure comes about a month after the Keystone 1 Pipeline leaked about 383,040 gallons of oil.

TC Energy, the company that owns the pipeline, shut down it down on October 29 after discovering that the oil had leaked from the pipe into the surrounding wetlands. The pipeline was returned to service on November 10 following approval by the US Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration, TC Energy says.

Initial reports of the leak released by TC Energy and North Dakota's Department of Environmental Quality estimated about 2,500 square yards of land were affected by the spill.

Now, they have both revised the size of the impacted area to 4.8 acres, or 23,232 square yards -- that's almost ten times the original estimate.

The new estimate includes both the surface and subsurface impact of the leak. The initial 2,500-square-yard estimate was based on visual observations alone, the company told CNN.

So we can’t “end our dependence on foreign oil” by mining our own oil.
