The Shah. He had a few questionable policies (redistributing portions of land away from the aristocracy was one) but in general, he seemed like a decent, and most importantly, pro-western figure.

You can't be serious. You literally support the power of the aristocracy? Come on.

The Shah but Mossadegh is preferable to either of them,

Also this.

Little-known fact: Mossadegh was terrible.

Little-known fact: The Council on Foreign Relations might not be the Illuminati or whatever, but it still has a terrible bias. Also, from what I've read of the coup, very few sources would agree with the CFRs conclusions.

EDIT: Seriously, that is whitewashing of epic proportions. Mossadegh might not have been a saint, but that article is ridiculous.

Most accounts of the coup serve to render Mossadegh as some sort of democratic saint-  I say this from experience- which is simply a blatant falsehood.

Okay, so this certainly seems legitimate. The CFR is pretty good. Let's see who wrote it.

Oh, that's interesting. Seems it wasn't originally from the CFR at all. Let's look closer at who it's originally from.

The Weekly Standard. Doesn't sound reliable, but just to be sure, let's check it out.

Seems a little biased. What's that in the middle?

Heh.

Irregardless, removing him or keeping him is the choice of the Iranians, not us.

Urgh, Pahlavi. Though we'd never have this choice if the CIA didn't meddle to keep the precious oil safe. Angry

Heh, I know it's a completely different criteria, but I can't helped to be amused that if this is accurate, Khomeini is more popular than James Buchanan.

That's kind of surprising, as I thought that he would be well ahead of the Shah in this match-up.

Oh, well it isn't a straight-up match-up, but Buchanan was at 8% popularity in that thread, and Khomeini is at 10% in this thread. So the forum apparently likes Khomeini more than Buchanan.

The Shah, easily. Unlike Khomeini he implemented some decent policies (land reform, women's rights legislation, etc.) and wasn't completely deranged.
