Sanders says he hasn't decided whether, should he run for president, he would do so as a Democrat or an Independent.  He has virtually no shot of being on the ticket as a Democrat, but obviously he could run on a ticket as an Indy if he wanted to.  Does that count for the purposes of this thread, or are you only counting the presidential tickets of the two major parties?

(And if you do include other parties, then you should probably replace some of these choices with the likely Libertarian, Green Party, etc. candidates.)

You both picked an irrelevant moron with no national name recognition over much more obvious choices like Haley Barbour or even Ray Mabus? Remember, Barbour was likely Guiliani's VP had he gotten the nomination.

To be fair, it's Mississippi. The only nationally known current politician in office from there is Thad Cochran and he would never run at his age and I doubt Barbour would to come 2016. Nobody has any idea who their 4 Reps. are, their Governor's name is easily forgettable, and Ray Mabus....maybe. Wicker is one of the only logical choices here.

I only hope.

Anyways:

Alabama - Martha Roby (R)
Alaska - Lisa Murkowski (R)
Arizona - Janet Napolitano (D)
Arkansas - Tom Cotton (R)
California - Jerry Brown (D)
Colorado - John Hickenlooper (D)
Connecticut - Chris Murphy (D)
Delaware - Joe Biden (D)
Florida - Marco Rubio (R)
Georgia - Karen Handel (R) (if we're doing hypotheticals then Handel is the only woman with real conservative cred, if not, then Barrow (D))
Hawaii - Brian Schatz/Colleen Hanabusa (D) (I'd say the primary's a tossup, but yeah, one of these two)
Idaho - Raul Labrador (R)
Illinois - Mark Kirk (R)
Indiana - Mike Pence (R)
Iowa - Terry Branstad (R) (my darkhorse)
Kansas - Tim Huelskamp (R)
Kentucky - Rand Paul (R)
Louisiana - Bobby Jindal (R)
Maine - Mike Michaud (D)
Maryland - Martin O'Malley (D)
Massachusetts - Elizabeth Warren (D)
Michigan - Rick Snyder (R) (even if he loses)
Minnesota - Amy Klobuchar (D)
Mississippi - Gene Taylor (D)
Missouri - Claire McCaskill (D)
Montana - Brian Schweitzer (D)
Nebraska - Deb Fischer (R) (again, not much to choose from)
Nevada - Brian Sandoval (R)
New Hampshire - Kelly Ayotte (R)
New Jersey - Chris Christie (R)

Ohio - Rob Portman (R)

Texas - Ted Cruz (R)
Utah - Mike Lee (R)
Vermont - Bernie Sanders (D/G)

New Mexico - Martin Heinrich (D)
New York - Hillary Clinton (D)
North Carolina - Richard Burr (R)

West Virginia - Shelly Moore Capito (R)
Wisconsin - Paul Ryan (R)
Wyoming - Matt Mead (R)

Interesting challenge. I think Gavin Newsom (young guy who backed Hillary in 2008, executive experience as big-city mayor) and Xavier Becerra (Hispanic who can help a Democrat's relationship with congress) have a better shot than Kamala Harris of being on the 2016 ticket.

I'd also rate Bennet above Hickenlooper in Colorado. He's younger, a Senator (Democrats love nominating Senators for Veep) and has expertise on a key policy issue. He's a stronger pick for Veep.

I see Nunn's chances of being Senator in Georgia as equivalent to Karen Handel's. And a few top-tier Republican presidential nominees are more likely to pick a socially conservative woman, than HRC is to pick a female Senator with a famous family.

In Hawaii, I'd probably rate Brian Schatz above an elderly buddhist, even though both are very unlikely.

Current scuttlebutt has Scott Walker as a more likely presidential contender than Ryan, who would likely not be chosen for veep a second time.

There's more demand in the Republican party for Susanna Martinez as Veep, but Heinrich may be more likely to say yes.

Peter Shumlin and Howard Dean probably have a better shot at being on a national (R/D) ticket than Bernie Sanders. Although I guess if you're including independent bids, Sanders has a shot.

Alabama - Martha Roby (R)
Alaska - Sarah Palin (R) Close to impossible, but a more likely nominee than Murkowski or Begich.
Arizona - Janet Napolitano (D)
Arkansas - Tom Cotton (R) Only if he wins in 2014. If not him, then whoever wins Governor next year.
California - Gavin Newsom (D) Would probably need higher office first, but more likely candidate than Jerry Brown.
Colorado - John Hickenlooper (D)
Connecticut - Chris Murphy (D)
Delaware - Joe Biden (D)
Florida - Marco Rubio (R)
Georgia - Michelle Nunn (D) Again, only if she wins 2014. If not her, Barrow.
Hawaii - Brian Schatz (D) If he wins the primary. If not then Hanabusa.
Idaho - Raul Labrador (R)
Illinois - Richard Durbin (D) About 0% chance of this happening but Kirk is probably going to run for reelection, and wouldn't win the R primary.
Indiana - Mike Pence (R)
Iowa - Bruce Braley (D) Darkhorse if he wins 2014. If not, Branstad.
Kansas - Sam Brownback (R)
Kentucky - Rand Paul (R)
Louisiana - Bobby Jindal (R)
Maine - Mike Michaud (D) If he wins 2014, if not Chellie Pingree.
Maryland - Martin O'Malley (D)
Massachusetts - Elizabeth Warren (D) She might get drafted, although it's unlikely.
Michigan - Justin Amash (R) Snyder and Schauer seem like obvious picks but I have doubts that either of them will run. Amash I guess could be a major longshot for VP.
Minnesota - Amy Klobuchar (D) Or Michelle Bachmann, but she wouldn't win the nomination.
Mississippi - Haley Barbour (D) He's old news, but no MS Dems are making it on the ticket, and Wicker seems happy in the Senate.
Missouri - Claire McCaskill (D)
Montana - Brian Schweitzer (D)
Nebraska - Deb Fischer (R) Only real option.
Nevada - Brian Sandoval (R) Probably will run for Senate in 2016, but is a minor possibility nonetheless.
New Hampshire - Kelly Ayotte (R)
New Jersey - Chris Christie (R) Duh.
New Mexico - Gary Johnson (L) If he runs for the Libertarian nomination again he gets it. If we're talking major party candidates, Susana Martinez (R) by far.
New York - Hillary Clinton (D) If she opts out or runs from AR then Gillibrand or Cuomo get it. But they wouldn't run if she does.
North Carolina - Kay Hagan (D)
North Dakota - Heidi Heitkamp (D)
Ohio - John Kasich (R) If he loses in 2014, then Rob Portman.
Oklahoma - Mary Fallin (R)
Oregon - Jeff Merkley (D)
Pennsylvania - Pat Toomey (R)
Rhode Island - Sheldon Whitehouse (D) Lincoln Chafee running as an (I) is also a possibility, although a minuscule one.
South Carolina - Nikki Haley (R)
South Dakota - John Thune (R)
Tennessee - Marsha Blackburn (R)
Texas - Ted Cruz (R) If not him then Rick Perry.
Utah - Mike Lee (R) Huntsman seems like a possibility but he will never come close to touching the nomination. Doubt he'll get picked for VP either
Vermont - Bernie Sanders (I) No point putting a (D) in there because the only way he makes it is as an Independent. Howard Dean is also an option.
Virginia - Mark Warner (D)
Washington - Maria Cantwell (D)
West Virginia - Shelley Moore Capito (R) Manchin may be popular but there is no way he will ever be on the Democratic ticket.
Wisconsin - Scott Walker (R)
Wyoming - Matt Mead (R)
