I wouldn't be the first to blame Target, I'd blame the girl and her father for poor communication skills.

Most young girls would rather tell some shlep at Target before their dad, Michael.

Yes I know. The decline of the American family.

Honestly, Mike, if someone, let's say in my mother's generation, with immigrant parents, got pregnant in their teens out of marriage.....she probably would have taken the bridge, literally.

Not that communication is so hot now but compared to the dark ages, it's way better, but still not good enough.

When you lose the threads in the fabric of the American family, things unravel and spin out of control so fast that you might as well throw logic out the window.

I just used so many metaphors I forgot what the hell we were talking about.

"Supermarket" must mean something different in Austria, because Target is most certainly not one in the US (where it refers to just a large grocery store.) Actually I suppose some Targets have a supermarket attached but not all.

Yeah.. those are called "Super Targets"...

To all Austrians:  Supermarkets refer to grocery stores.  We call those grocery stores, though.  Supermarket is an oddly British term.

Target is a big box general merchandise retailer.

We call everything here a supermarket that's bigger than let's say 10x10 meters. If smaller, it's a grocery store.

If it's a grocery store bigger than that, it's already a supermarket (even though a supermarket can also sell other stuff than groceries, like electronics, which almost all supermarkets do anyways these days).

That's why normal people pay cash in the supermarket and don't all pay at the same one.

As a terminus technicus a supermarket is any walk-through, take-stuff-from-the-shelf-yourself grocery store that is not a discount store. Of course no one in their right mind draws that distinction in every day speech given how much the chains themselves blur it.

The point is that Target is primarily a clothing and housewares store. Would you call Karstadt a "supermarket"?

Oh. Right. No I wouldn't. Nor is it one technically.

Yeah, I read the story and was completely unsurprised - I guess I already assumed that this sort of purchasing analysis and profiling was already being done.

Target is really more of a discount store chain (ala K-Mart), kind of like a cheap department store.

I'm not too worried. They gave me a coupon for fresh deli meat last time I was there.

Glad this didn't happen to me (not that our store sells baby stuff) because I would have laughed out loud
