So an indirect admission 2016 will be his final race, I guess. Guess Dems will need to bring some younger senators into leadership ranks.

Better Reid than him, I guess.

If Democrats lose the majority (and not by a slight margin) in 2014 or 2018, then Reid should know to step-aside.

Leaders who lose elections do not bode well among the backbenchers.

I like the fact that Reid is a fighter, but I don't like where he comes down on some important stuff.  As I understand it, his actions were instrumental in landing us in a sequester rather than helping to create the possibility of a long-term working budget.  Boo.

I am not certain about that. It appears Sandoval is leaving the door open for a run in 2016, and if Sharon Angle could get within five points, I'm sure Sandoval could win, even in a Presidential year.

Not so sure he'll be able to run.

And anyway, 2010 was 2010 and we're certainly not seeing a context like that in 2016.

Ralston has also said Sandoval may not run in 2016 anyways. Regardless, Reid will remain leader for the remainder of his Senate career.

TBH I rather doubt Sandoval will run against Reid in 2016 unless Reid retires (obviously, if Reid wants to stay powerful as leader, the caucus has to think he's permanent). The year for a solid, well-funded candidate, such as Sandoval, to take down Reid was 2010, and it didn't happen.

In 2010, Sandoval likely would have won, but with the increased Dem turnout and probable headwind at the top of the ticket, Sandoval would probably fall short.  Nevada is getting a little worse for Republicans each year.

Reid as leader would be better than Schumer. Democrats need a leader who isn't toxic for other Democrats.

Not going to happen. Reid would win by the same amount he won against Angle.

Reid's approval ratings are godawful. Sandoval would crush him like a bug even in a presidential year.

Don't underestimate The Machine. Popularity isn't what drives victory in Nevada, it's all about GOTV.

Robert Byrd didn't.

My opinion of Reid has gotten better over the past few years, and I'll take decades of him being leader if it means keeping a Wall Street shill like Chuck Schumer at bay.
