Hey, everyone would love no income tax, right? The question is, how will he pay for it? If by increasing sales and property taxes, Illinois and Minnesota will be ecstatic. If by further deep cuts, he can kiss 2014 goodbye.

Maybe I'm confusing you with someone else, but weren't you a Libertarian like...a few months ago?

Unless they want to own property or own a business that sells anything in the state of Wisconsin.

How will the rollout be handled? Cause that'll require a budget blowtorch, no scalpels need apply.

Wouldn't be the first. Don't think it's a good idea myself, but it isn't exactly apocalyptic.

With only a three-seat majority in the Senate, there's somewhat of a good chance this isn't going to pass.  If it does, then Walker can kiss reelection goodbye.

Either he makes up for it by raising other taxes, or he cuts spending/programs. Either way, this is great as long as he has a plan to make this work properly.

I say "do it, Scott!"... it'll just drive Wisconsinites into neighboring states.  It takes a pretty strong desire for a gay guy to write a letter to his local WI paper saying "as soon as I get the chance, I'm moving to Minnesota where I can get married and be treated equally."

Alienate your young people.  Strangle your best performing cities (Madison, the smaller regional centers in Minnesconsin... the western part of the state).  And give them even mroe excuse to either do all their working and shopping in Minnesota (no sales tax on clothing or food ftw!), or just convince them to mvoe here period (by drastically cutting programs to pay for your tax cuts or driving property taxes through the roof).

High tax, high service beats low tax, low service in the end because we educate all of our children... not just the ones in gated communities where they pay for the "privilege" of good local schools while everybody else gets sh**t on.  I'm sure the rich in WI are ecstatic about Walker's plans.

The problem is:  Wisconsin already has fairly high sales and property taxes.  Either they'll move to the tippy top in those categories or you're gonna see the number of uninsured *increase* in that state and poverty *increase* in that state and all quality of life indicators plummet as all the states around them see improvements in those areas.

Wisconsin has become the black eye of the upper midwest.  And like we learned here from 1999-2007... it's a failed governing philosophy that is going to ruin everything they hold dear.

The good hard working people will have no problems doing either, just as they have no problems doing so in Washington.

You're not confusing me with someone else. I have had about a year long transition from the right side of libertarianism to a sort of liberal/libertarian mixture. I changed my image to Democrat just because I am leaning in that direction now, but I am actually an independent.

Basically I am a libertarian on issues of personal freedoms, civil liberties, foreign policy, minimum wage and other floors/ceilings, but am now liberal on the social safety net, especially healthcare.

Things change, what can I say?

When you eliminate one source of revenue, another source must replace it, even if there are massive cuts. Do not underestimate the seriousness of increased sales taxes, as these are the taxes that effect people the most. If the rates rise at all, Walker will have put a big issue for himself on the table.

Eliminate one tax raise another that's what this basically. Sales tax will likely be hiked big time to make up for the lost revenue property taxes too. Look at Texas no income tax but one of the property tax burden in the U.S. Jindal tried this earlier this year and his approval rating collapsed he still hasn't recovered.

That's fair. I was more thinking out loud (proverbially) because I recalled my big long rant about how Gubmint is protecting the rich and I didn't know if it was at you or someone else with an L-IL avatar lol. Glad we both ended up on the right side tho haha

He still might be less of a crazy right-winger than Senator Ron Johnson.

Booby Jindal floated the same balloon in Louisiana last year, it proved to be made of lead.

I actually know a guy from Wisconsin who moved his family here because he didn't want to pay income tax. He lost his job because of Bush's housing market collapse and now works two part-time retail jobs. So, obviously, he blames his problems on President Obama.
