President Lyndon Johnson (D-TX)

Governor Brian Schweitzer (D-MT)

Interior Secretary Ken Salazar (D-CO)

Laredo Mayor Raśl Salinas (D-TX)

I mean really, guys? What is it with Democrats and wearing cowboy hats? It's like you can't be a Democrat without wearing a cowboy hat.

A defense attorney in my former tiny Ohio town always wore a cowboy hat. About the only one in the county who does, though he raises horses so he has an excuse. A proud leftie radical, who was once the elected GOP prosecutor a few decades ago. Interesting guy.

It is similarly in the job description for Canadian Prime Ministers:

Indeed, there's a different dress code for party leaders in BC:

It's a western thing, not a conservative thing.

This. About half the people in Wyoming wear a cowboy hat. Now Wyoming happens to be a very republican state, and the cowboy hat demographic is more conservative than the non-cowboy hat demographic (but only by a little bit), but plenty of liberals also wear cowboy hats. Its a sign of western culture. You don't see these things in the deep south very often, but you see them a lot in Texas, Montana, Dakotas, Colorado, etc.
