The desert is pretty hostile, and Las Vegas is easily one of the most overrated places in the country (there's basically nothing to do there if you're under 21, it's extremely hot, and suffers from the same sprawl issues that Phoenix does).

But, there's also Reno, Lake Tahoe, and Great Basin National Park.

On the balance, FS.

One of my closest friends lived in Vegas for a year or two, and in his judgment (which tends to track pretty closely with mine) it was just about the most horrible place ever- not because it was a den of gambling and sin, no that part was fine, it was the anti-urban sprawlscape and the whole "this is a freaking hot and dry desert that people should NOT BE LIVING IN" aspect that got to him.

So, I defer to his judgment, and vote HS.  Harry Reid is pretty great (aside from being an anti-Yucca NIMBY of course), but he can't save the state by himself.

Regarding Nevada? Vegas isn't my kind of city, sounds terrible to me, but some parts of rural Nevada seem rather nice, like Like Tahoe.
