To mark the arrival of organized government to the Mideast region, I propose we adopt a regional flag.  The flag will be used for all civil ceremonies, and as a recognizable symbol of the Mideast region.

I ask all Mideast citizens to please sign this petition to show your support for the idea.  Also, if you sign it, please nominate some of the flags below to be voted on in the proposition.  You may nominate as many of them as you like, and you may also submit or suggest your own design as well.  All submissions must be shown in this thread in order to be nominated.

Although legally an initiative only requires 7 signatures, I hope to get as many Mideast voters as possible to nominate or submit flags for the eventual proposition ballot.

These are the flag designs.  I've kept them all simple, and opted for the basic red/white/blue tricolor.  Your own submissions don't have to stick to this rule, but it would be preferable.

Flag 1:

Flag 2:

Flag 3:

Flag 4:

Flag 5:

Flag 6:

Flag 7:

Flag 8:

Flag 9:

Flag 10:

Flag 11:

Flag 12:

Flag 13:

Flag 14:

Flag 15:

Reminder: you may suggest or submit your flags for nomination.

Under Section 3, Clause 4 of the Mideast regional constitution, I hereby recognize this petition.

I'll be the first to sign the petition:

I nominate flag nos. 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 12, 13 and 14 for the proposition ballot.

Yeah, I put that in for the critics who say that the Mideast might as well be the next Cuba or North Korea.  I think I now regret it, because I have a horrible feeling it might actually be chosen as the flag.

You do know who has a power of veto right?

Thank God for that.

I'm tempted to move to the Mideast so I could vote for #15 or at least #4 which is vaguely remisicent of the old Soviet Naval ensign, but with noticable differences.

Fortunately you would not be qualified to vote if you were to make such a move.

Depends on when the vote is and what your residency requirements are.  In any case it wouldn't be worth the aggravation of being outside the Southeast for 4 months.

I wouldn't recommend Flag #5.  It would open the door for cheap Texas-Mideast jokes on Atlasia's late night.

All these comments are appreciated.  Though would anybody else actually from the Mideast like to pass comment?  So far this initiative only has two signatures and nominations.  Peter has already told me that this will be put forward for a prop vote on Friday anyway, but I encourage fellow Mideasterners to submit or suggest their own designs.

As a former Mideasterner, i must say #15 is not a wholly inaccurate means of describing the region. ;-).

However, All of them, except #3, are nice (A confederate X should not be the same color as a disk in the center). Any that aren't chosen might end up being another's region's flag...

I honestly didn't mean for it to look like the confederate flag.  It was just a horrible coincidence that I only noticed afterwards.

Signature Maker

You can make rudimentary graphical text in this if you don't have the software on your own machine.

You then need webspace to host it on. I personally use Photobucket, but there are other hosts around and you might already have some of course.

If you feel the need for a few more flags:

These were the house flags for the Great Northern Steamship Co. and Great Northern Pacific Steamship Co. respectively back at the start of the 20th century.

Seriously tho, designs 7-14 have the advantage and disadvantage of that circle of stars.  It makes the chace if the design being in use elsewhere very small which is advantage, but if the number of States in the Mideast changes, as is quite possible under the new Constitution, you'd have to but new designs up.

I might put a clause in the proposition that states that the ring of stars is relative to the number of Mideast states.  Therefore, if the map changes in the future, so will the flag automatically.

Though this doesn't have the requisite number of signatures, I have put it on the ballot by way of Proposition because Joe obviously put quite a bit of work into it.

I have removed Flags 3 and 15 on the final ballot because I would have vetoed them had they been adopted, and I don't have the power to veto propositions.
