No minimum age, since the question asks about consumption.

No minimum age for consumption, but I think something like 16-18 is prudent for a purchasing age.

For consumption, no minimum, but for purchase: beer and wine 19, liquor 25.

Edit: Actually, on second thought I think Cathcon is completely right about this one. All the other recreational drugs should also have a minimum age of sixteen by the way.

I'm not a fan of age limits in general, but 18 seems rational for the purchase of alcohol and tobacco, as well as voting. Consumption should not have an age limit.

Arbitrary age requirements are stupid.

Though that may be the case, having no requirements leaves children without the benefit of mental maturation choosing whether to consume addictive, potentially harmful substances that could meaningfully limit the extent to which their freedoms are actionable later on in life. Testing them to gauge the appropriate level of maturity would be more expensive, complicated, and inconvenient for the state and public alike. What do you think?

No age limit for consumption, 18 for purchase, regardless of strength.

My views on this basically stem from the saying: "Old enough to die for your country, but not old enough to drink."

What's easy isn't always what's right.

I am not sure I understand though. You mean kids should be able to do drugs at any age, or that there should be some sort of testing scheme on an individual basis to determine eligibility, or do you mean something else? I'm fine with people being against age-based limits but the rest of their perspectives on the matter are far from being obvious to me, honestly.

No consumption age, 18 for purchase.

This, or if there's an age for consumption, at least don't criminalize the underage drinker.

There should be no drinking age and the alcohol purchase age should be no higher than 18. I think the current purchase age in this country isn't just wrong on principle, but I think it's just plain bad policy. If you want a policy that promotes responsible drinking, it might be a good idea for people to learn it prior to going off to college.

I came of age when the Great Satan, Ronald Reagan was forcing states to raise their drinking age to 21.  I ended up turning legal 3 times, 18 in Louisiana, 19 in Texas, and 21 in Texas because Texas is Texas and chose not to utilize a grandfather clause (total dick move).  I'd vote for 19 for purchase/bar admit and no age for consumption.

The idea of even worrying about the written law on this matter is superfluous, as it is so easily broken so often. That said, I maintain my previous answer.

I  like the European model: 16 for beer and wine; 18 for harder alcohol like liquor/spirits.
