He's certainly more fit than Yasser Arafat.

Also, how come Soviet-lite Gorbachev got the award, but not Reagan?

Name one person who's done more for world peace in the last ten years.

To be honest, I think the Nobel Peace Price shouldn't exist to begin with, so in response to your last post: no one.

Yeah sure.  17,000 civilian deaths in Iraq so far.

GIVE THAT MAN A MEDAL.

It's distrubing that they gave it to that terrorist Arafat.

The Nobel Peace Prize has become a joke.

In 1973, it was issued jointly to Henry Kissinger and Le Duc Tho, even as the war continued despite the "peace" treaty they signed.

Jimmy Carter was a real winner too.  It was Ronald Reagan who deserved the Nobel Peace Prize.  He implemented many of the policies that ended the Cold War.  But of course, he never got it.

Does Bush deserve it?  Too soon to tell.  But one thing I know for sure - whether he deserves it or not, he won't get it.  That prize would sooner go to the Iranian mullahs, or Kim Jong Il, for their "peaceful" moves, than to the man who may end up brining a wave of peace through the middle east.

The question isn't whether Bush deserves a Nobel Peace Prize, but rather whether the Nobel Peace Prize deserves Bush.  It is far below Bush and Bush should never accept such a farce.  To do so would only put him in the same category as Arafat and Mandela.

As well as Kissinger. If I had to pick someone, I'd go with Chirac just to piss the conservatives off, even though he definately doesn't deserve it.

I don't know who I'd give it to, I'll have to think for awhile. Most of the very deserving people (Nelson Mandela, The Dalai Llama, Desmond Tutu, Kim Dae Jung, Aung San Suu Kyi) have already received it. Wei Jingsheng would be a good pick though.

Perhaps the inventor of dynamite?  Er, maybe not..... Wink

Perhaps the Oppenheimer prize...  That might have potential....

No - such an honour should be bestowed only on the finest and not handed out to the incompetent and mediocre of statesmen

In fact, I agree with some of you Republicans the Nobel Peace Price has become a joke! Past winners, like Arafat, have been ludicrous

Well starting any war, no matter what the long-term well-meaning aims, that causes all those deaths does not warrant an award for promoting peace.

Before you ask, I also disagree with Arafat's award.

Didn't Arafat receive it jointly with Rabin though, because they were working to put an end to the conflict? Maybe Arafat didn't fulfill his end later and certainly didn't deserve it, but it's not quite as insane if you look at it in context.

Kissinger on the other hand, that's just ridiculous.

At the time it looked very different, but by 1997 Arafat should have had his prize revoked.
