By "strong," I mean that the split between your two types of political beliefs are quite noticable (i.e. 6 or more on the Political Compass).

Even is about 1.5 within eachother.

I myself am strongly libertarian.

I am a moderate libertarian with the mind of a liberal.

You don't seem like you're strongly libertarian. Your compass scores don't show it, and your views tend to match those of a very undecided centrist.

By strong, I do not mean not overall centrist - I mean that one's economics are much more conservative relative to their social views, not that one is extreme in general.

And I am very decided, it's just that what I have decided is rather mixed, I guess.

Well, I consider some of my social views to be out there compared to the norm, and very few of my economic views are extreme, so I guess I'm a conservative with a slight populist lean.

You're right. Poor word usage on my part. However, I still do not see how you can call yourself strongly libertarian. Maybe you could explain your views a bit more clearly? It seems to me, Alcon, that you are clearly a loyal Democrat - and good for you - but you also tend to seek a centered and balanced view on almost every issue. I cannot think of a single one of your positions off the top of my head. To me, a life without extremism isn't worth living.

...But I'm the one advocating secession from North Jersey, so perhaps my views aren't to be taken seriously. Tongue

Oh, and I understand the scale. It's just generally not a good way of measuring it.

Yes, I know. I was not intending this as a referendum on the Political Compass, but rather as a dumbed-down example. People should be able to choose their own option, obviously.

I think of libertarian as someone who identifies themselves as "having libertarian leans," and a strong libertarian as someone who readily identifies themselves as "politically libertarian."

I choose libertarian, just because I know I'm more socially liberal, even though it doesn't show up that much in my compass score.

Going by Alcon's scale, I'm strongly populist.  I'd say that's generally correct; the difference between the two is over six.  "Populist" also fits my generally socially conservative but economically liberal beliefs.

Political Compass:

Economic L/R -4.88 and Social L/A 0.82, so I'd say I'm populist

www.issues2000.org:

Moderate liberal populist (personal 45%; economic 38%)

However, one ideology test said I was a Conservative Libertarian Huh
