What a self-aggrandizing wanker. Not that I agree or disagree with his actions, but.. ugh.

Snowgate didn't accomplish anything legislatively.

the whole point is to start thinking outside of the prescribed channels.

If his mission was to attack his country, then yes, good job.

I for one cannot wait for the day that he is brought to justice and made an example of.

While I think some push back against the domestic surveillance state was necessary, I otherwise endorse Lief's statement.

Snowden is a little $hinks.

How'd he'd hurt the country? There's no evidence any terrorist attacks were thwarted by NSA surveillance as mentioned in another thread.

Considering what his country is, I applaud him.

Guess what: the security services don't always shout about foiled plots from the rooftops.

That's only a bad thing if you believe the US spies for noble purposes. I doubt that's the case most of the time.

I'm grateful that he did what he did.

I don't think Snowden is a villain, but he certainly isn't the messiah figure that some liberals have made him out to be. I honestly don't think he revealed anything new or surprising at all.

al Qaeda's communication methods are not likely to be intercepted in this way. They don't give vital info in emails.

I've yet to hear anything convincing about how Snowden hurt anyone.

It's hard to find any examples of non-attention whoring FFs.

Even Gandhi could be described as one, if you think about it. Tongue

Does anyone seriously believe Snowden's actions will result in another 9/11?

About now, I'd be asking you for extrapolation as to how Snowden's actions actually hurt the United States in any palpable, conceivable way, but I imagine that would involve too much logic to fit your authoritarian-worshiping hack narrative.

He's damaged and strained our relations with a number of countries, among them Brazil, Russia and Germany. All for an attention whoring crusade to get paranoid children on the internet to love him.

Snowden has been useful in different ways. For one thing, his disclosures sparked a world-wide debate about how far governments and their agencies should be allowed to go when it comes to spying on their own people in the name of security and protection from terrorism (let's not forget that, in principle, a democratic government exists to serve its own citizens and not the other way around). Additionally, his actions have revealed the hilarious weakness and hypocrisy of the leading European governments.

The fact that the NSA is spying on everyone through every channel it can? Not surprising, if grossly unconstitutional.
The fact that they had 1000 sysadmins who had the rights to every operational detail in the agency? Shocking. As far as I'm concerned Snowden helped national security by exposing such gross malpractice.

The end doesn't always justify the means. Spying on everyone and possibly even arresting completely innocent people to possibly thwart a terrorist attack is simply not what we should be doing in western democracies.
