Great work! BTW any chance you'll do a more detailed profile like you did for Danforth?:

Forum polls:

Trinity-Spadina: Lib 52, NDP 34, Cons 12

One point of skepticism: I doubt that all "others" (incl. Green) would be polling at 2% total.

Alas, with the provincial election, I have been quite limited as to how much detail I could do for these by-election. I'm still working on the two Alberta ridings, as well.  When there is only one riding having a by-election, it is much easier to do more maps.

It's certainly been an eventful month for us politics junkies! I'm really looking forward to seeing your FM-A map, Earl. I don't know anything about the area but with all the tar sands activity going on it must be a fascinating demographic/economic situation.

Trudeau visited the riding recently. The report on it is pretty sympathetic. http://www.fortmcmurraytoday.com/2014/06/25/trudeau-harrietha-make-final-pitch-to-fort-mcmurray-voters

I wonder if this means the Libs really think they have a shot, or at least don't need to reinforce their flanks in T-S and S-A.

I think the Tories are going to get spooked in Fort Mac.  I also did a profile on the riding a ways backhttp://cartoview.blogspot.ca/2014/05/fort-mcmurrayathabaska.html

Well, I won't be able to top that. But, you might want to change the spelling of Athabasca on your maps. Wink

I wouldn't be a Left Coast Liberal Elite without a few careless misspellings though

Even dyed-in-the-wool socialists like myself are guilty of misspellings and other embarrassing errors.  My original post on Scarborough-Agincourt had the list of MPs as "MPPs".

CPAC has an interesting series on 3/4 (not Fort Mac) of the by-elections.

Geez, is Fort McMurray even having a by-election? Wink

I wonder if turnout will be close to 10% Tongue

My favourite federal by-election to have followed was undoubtedly Outremont '07.

Yes, me too. I think it's result played the biggest role in changing the electoral landscape than in any recent by-election that I can think of.

Too bad.  I've compiled a lot of data at the census tract level for T-S, but alas I've yet to familiarize myself with mapping software.

Alternatively, you can use my Census Tract map of the riding and manually colour it in using MS Paint.

Anyways, I just found out that there will be a provincial by-election in St. George's-Stephenville East, NL. It was vacated a few weeks ago, and I totally missed it.

Very cool! Surprised that the Toronto Islands are so middle income. I thought one would have to be insanely wealthy to live there. Even if they are huge NDP supporters.

Anyways, here is my profile of Fort McMurray-Athabasca: http://canadianelectionatlas.blogspot.ca/2014/06/june-30-federal-by-election-profiles_27.html

One more to go! Will probably post it on Monday afternoon.

Thanks!  To clarify, this is mother tongue data, not ethnic origin, though obviously they overlap significantly.  Krago of course provided an excellent map covering the dissemination area level for Chinese and Portuguese speakers.

Re: Toronto Islands

"The Toronto Island Residential Community Trust manages the buying and selling of homes on the Island. Islanders are permitted to hand down both houses and leases to their heirs but no profit is allowed on the sale of Island houses or on the transfer of leases.

The Islands' house values are calculated based on the cost to build less depreciation. The land leases fluctuate slightly over time but are currently at $39,000 for Ward's Island, and $49,000 for Algonquin Island. Algonquin's leases are higher because the lots are bigger.

The Toronto Island houses have mostly wood exteriors which blend in well with the rustic setting of this neighbourhood. Each Island home is decorated with a variety of whimsical accents, that add to the overall charm of these picture postcard houses."
