Judging from the polls, looks like a CAQ hold.

Most likely, but he had a sizeable personal vote (he was the only CAQ MNA in Quebec City area to increase his share of vote in 2014).

That has to be some comfort for the NDP, basically holding their results from the last election, given all the relatively recent bad coverage around Michael's... seems like that's past now? As long as the party can hold what they have at the next election that will bee seen as a win, but Michael's time as leader should be up after that

Good news for the NDP is that their best areas are in areas where the Liberals are historically weak (St. John's). But we saw in the Virginia Waters by-election earlier this year that the Liberals can win in St. John's too.

Absolutely; but lets remember that was a slim win, Liberals only won with 39% vs 39% for the PCs ... 40 votes; the NDP saw a 9% swing vs the tories 20% swing... so it will be weather or not the NDP or the Liberals eat up more of the Tory vote.
I am interested in specifically seeing whether or not the NDP will win back St.John's North or will the NDP-turn-Liberal MHA hold it. The Liberals look to be on their way to winning province wide, it will be interesting to see where the PC vote in SJs goes since as you said this is the weakest area for the Liberals.

Whitby Mayor Pat Perkins will seek the Tory nomination in Whitby-Oshawa. Hopefully this means Harper calls the by-election soon.

As I suspected: Stephen Mandel will be the PC candidate in Edmonton-Whitemud, and Gordon Dirks will run for the PCs in Calgary-Elbow.  No word yet on where Prentice will run.

By-elections galore. QC: Elaine Zakaib (PQ-Richelieu) resigns to take a corporate post. AB will hold 4 on Oct. 27: Calgary-Elbow, Calgary-Foothills (Prentice will run there), Calgary-West and Edmonton-Whitemund.

I'd rather he do it now than harm his health/relationships but... what did he think would happen when we won the nomination for a winnable seat Tongue

And the rumour mill is saying Dominic Cardy is not resigning after all and will be running for the NDP in Saint John East.

If it weren't for Rob Ford, this would be the strangest election in Canada in years.

Considering it was close last time, I wonder if a lower turnout of a by-election will tip this in favour of provincial Liberals. Also it might be tempting to be on power side to make it easier to realize projects in the riding. At least CAQ have a candidate well known to the public but I'm not sure how much ties to the riding he has.
