Why do so many people like Torie so much? I just don't get it.

Torie's only been a moderator for a little over a year (Oct 2012). Before that he was routinely one of the most popular posters in the various opinion polls on the FC. Even as recently as two months ago he was still getting a 64% FF rating. Off Topic is one of the hardest boards to moderate, in part because it is a catchall and can wander into fringe territory for the Atlas. It's not surprising that moderators there tend to be the ones that get the greatest grief for their work.

I don't think that being a moderator should per se be a positive or a negative attribute. There are good and bad moderators. Judging from what I've seen, Torie has proven to do his job pretty well, but I don't see how that should be enough to be ranked among the top 5 posters.

Wait, I thought you were a respectable poster.  Maybe I have you confused with someone else.

I do not visit any of the election boards or fantasy election RP threads, and do not keep up with most threads in the boards I do visit. There is not nearly enough time for me to do so. This means the posts of many people on the Atlas do not appear to me at all during my daily rounds.

Please also bear in mind that I do not consider certain tones of expression in posts positive, and think lowly of some posters even if the contents of their messages are often clever or intelligent. The political perspectives put forward in posts meanwhile tend not to be as important in my judgements; I am not one to think more or less of people based on how often they agree with me on the issues at hand or whether their outlook on the world compares similarly to mine.

Finally, I do not feel like an incorporated, well-liked member of the community and have little in the way of knowledge about most of the posters here. Being here only a couple of years means that I am only looking at a small sliver of the Atlas' history of posting. To me at least, the selections I made seem reasonable given what I know and who I am familiar with at this time as an outsider.

Indeed, quite fitting for the time, isn't it? Tongue

Though I don't care nearly as much for the outcome as I did yesterday, due to recent events.

You should just close it now and avoid the risk of another tie. You cant expect the numbers of votes to stay stable in polls like this, participation level will generally drop during a poll series.

Well, there is a tie right now. Tongue

Anyway, we're slowly getting to the 80-85 turnout we've had so far. All we need is for this thread to stay on top long enough.

Tied candidates should be eliminated in favor of the next person down.

In most contests of this sort where no tie breaker rules are present, the tied parties both advance.

I do have a way for resolving ties, which is based on the number of votes got in the previous round (which means Torie would win). However, I'd very much prefer the tie to resolve itself.

OK, if we have no new votes I'll close this tomorrow morning.
