Israeli media reporting that he's suffered renal failure, which could lead to overall organ failure. One report saying he could die in a matter of days if his health continues worsening.

'Health' being a rather odd word to use here (not that I'm sure what I'd suggest instead).

Hasn't he been brain-dead for the last 5-10 years anyways?

In a permanent, irreversible vegetative state since 2006, yeah. Although his brain is not, of course, dead (braindead as medically defined he is not). Which even with the best possible care is remarkably long to have hung onto existence for a man his age and pre-stroke physical fitness.

I'm amazed that he has clung on this long. I suppose his body is simply giving up, and I hope his caretakers will let nature take its course.

Sad that he's dying in such an undignified (not his fault of course but nature's) way.

I forgot he's still alive. Regardless of his politics, which I'm not a fan of, that's really sad fate.

Israel Radio quoting the hospital: "These are the last hours of Ariel Sharon's life." Sad

My condolences to his family. You may or may not have liked him, but they've lost him today.

Well, it's never been certain how much brain function he had left. It's often very hard to tell with deep comas.

One way or another, we know he's at peace now. RIP.

To be fair, during the last years before his stroke, didn't he pivot to a more moderate, humane position?

Yes, he was pretty much loathed by the far right for his disengagement from Gaza.

Also, the war crimes he's implicated in were committed by a third party. He's accused of allowing them access, which resulted in them having the opportunity to commit the crimes. He denied having any knowledge of what the Kataeb Militia was planning and was never criminally charged, although he did have to resign his post for it happening on his watch. He later won a libel suit against Time Magazine for alleging that he was directly involved.

One of best what-ifs to be written would be how a Sharon PM would react to a Hamas government. RIP for his acts on last months of life.

RIP. Even though he had his share of past mistakes, Ariel Sharon was a decent person who truly cared about his country. My prayers and condolences go out to his family and loved ones.

Not only did he allow the Phalangists access, he effectively prevented the residents of Sabra and Shatila from escaping by blocking the roads out of the compounds. What he did was comparable to the British massacre of Indians at Amritsar - creating an opportunity for large numbers of people to be killed and then adding insult to injury by denying the victims any opportunity to escape.

Oh. I didn't know that. Then may he rot.

It's always good to get rid of a war criminal. Plus it makes energy savings and free a hospital spot for somebody who would actually need it to get better.
