Poll
Question: Did you get the day off school?
#1
Hell yes, and I'm gonna build a snowman and have a snowball fight.

#2
No.  Easterners are wimps.  You get a few inches of snow and everything closes.  I'm from the Midwest and I walk two miles to school every day in the snow.

#3
Snow?  Sick, dude.  Like, we're more into the herb, but that sounds chill.

I got off today too, before it had even snowed at all. Watauga County cancels schools pretty easily- a lot of folks live on remote mountain roads where the conditions are bad.

I don't know what these poll options mean, but I read horrifying things on Facebook. Hopefully it clears up before I have to go back next week.

Literally one of four districts in Lancaster County that only had a two-hour delay today (angus's boy I know has off because they're in Manheim Township IIRC). Regardless, I'm staying home today. I have a cold, so there's some genuine excuse there.

Yes, another snow day for MT.  I'm at work today, though.  Lots and lots of shoveling yesterday and today.  Wicked cold this morning.  Currently 3°F.  Breezy too.  Glad I'm not working outside.

-4 this morning but it was a 2 hour delay for the districts around here.  Of course I like it because the main artery I travel has lots of stops for for the bus but not this morning when I came through.  Smiley

I don't know what these poll options mean

That means option 3 is your answer.

Looks like I'll be getting snow tomorrow.  Ugh.  I've got several things planned for Wednesday and Thursday that will be a bear to reschedule.

Today and tomorrow are both "snow days" for Chicagoland. they are really "cold days" since there wasn't much snow, but today's daytime high remained below zero and it's forecast to go down to -20 oF tonight.

We've had a day with a high of -16F and two with highs of -14F.  That's the coldest since 1996 (which had a high of -24F after -50F that morning!!).

Schools here were closed today and are again tomorrow because of the dangerous windchills and cold temps.  WInd chills were down to -50F.

We are supposed to be getting snow here. As a result, classes have been called off today and tomorrow, but we haven't had a drop of it just yet. Typical SC.

Really?  Where I live it did snow, so it was a good thing classes were canceled.  I'm glad I didn't have to drive in the snow.

That is truly impressive.

Cold here today, but nothing like that.  Low single digits in the morning warming to 20ish.  Warming trend predicted tomorrow, apparently, reaching mid-40s by Saturday.  I think my son has had five days off so far this school year.  We're up to June 13 now.  Spain will have to wait.

Anyways, if this forum has proven anything, it's that anyone from the southern states or foreigners from warm countries are pretty wimpy. Kind of makes me sad for the human race.

Hells yes. I'd vote option 2, but the OP foolishly listed "Easterners" rather than "Southerners".

I could laugh myself sick at the stories coming out of the south at the near collapse of public order and civilization over 2-4 inches of snow!!

It's basically this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HRa2sFQ3d3k

Ended up with a thin layer of rime topped with about 1 1/2 inches of snow.  Roads are good right now, but I wouldn't want to drive at night unless I absolutely had to.

The amount of snow days this year at my old school are insane. Kids know the night before, which is something that didn't occur a single time between 1995 and 2004 when I was in 1st-9th grade. Not a single time did I go to bed knowing I had a snow day.

Not foolish to stick with convention.  The convention is foolish of course.  Ohio is clearly in the northeastern quadrant when looking upon a map, but it is still part of the Midwest.  Don't blame me.  I didn't invent it.  I'm just propagating it.

And yes, Easterners are apparently wimps, although given Reaganfan's observations, Midwesterners are becoming pretty wimpy as well.  Smiley

What option is there for someplace where it hasn't snowed for decades?

I may be influenced by where he lives- if he's from the Appalachian part of Ohio, it'd make sense- my corner of the world is similar topographically and has been doing something similar.

The greater Los Angeles area and the U.S.S. Enterprise both fit that bill.  Pick whichever of those two options suits your general outlook.

In East Tyrol and Carinthia it dumped up to 2 meters (80 inches) of snow overnight, with another meter to come during the day and next night:

Thank goodness I'm on the North-Alps and not on the South-Alps, which have seen already more than 3 meters of snow this winter, while we have only seen a meter or so.
