Not sure when it will come around for by-election, but the death of one of the two remaining SDP district/borough councillors occured about 2 weeks ago.

http://www.bridlington.gov.uk/
http://www.bridlingtonfreepress.co.uk/news/local/former-bridlington-mayor-ray-allerston-dies-1-6845497

The only remaining district councillor is in Aberavon, Neath Port Talbot. There is one Town councillor on Bridlington Town Council remaining. Not sure if there are any others lurking at town/parish council level.

I might volunteer for that, seeing as that's my local. Or is it worth my time?

Just voted in the PCC election (First choice: Labour, Second Choice: Nobody)

The poll workers looked astoundingly bored, and I can see why. :/

I voted this morning, and my ballot will be indistinguishable from CrabCake's.

Someone from Labour just knocked on my door.  I got the impression that they think a lot of people don't even know about the by-election; this isn't really surprising as the only thing I've had through my door about it was my poll card, which was ages ago, and there hasn't been much media coverage.

Turnout in S Yorks PCC 14.88%, down slightly on 2012 but perhaps not quite as bad as expected.  Highest in Rotherham (probably good for UKIP but not surprising), lowest in Barnsley.

Doncaster first preferences: Lab 15310 (45%), UKIP 11380, Con 4730, Eng Dem 2314

Sheffield first preferences: Lab 32867 (57%), UKIP 14666, Con 7196, Eng Dem 2937

Barnsley first preferences: Lab 10877 (51%), UKIP 6609, Con 2672, Eng Dem 1288

Labour should be OK unless Rotherham is a complete disaster.

Full result:
Alan Billings (Lab) 74,060 (50.02%)
Jack Clarkson (UKIP) 46,883 (31.66%)
Ian Walker (Con) 18,536 (12.52%)
David Allen (Eng Dem) 8,583 (5.8%)

148,062 votes, so Labour had 29 more than they needed to avoid a second count.
