Real cathair passing as artificial?!  Outrage!!!

Actually, the fox meat being passed donkey meat was truly outrageous.  This, though, seems more like getting gold when you paid for silver.  Unless it's mangy or tick-ridden, it is not the sort of thing that would elicit outrage on my part.  I guess if you're anti-pelt, then it would be outrageous, but what sort of anti-pelt meathead would purchase a fake fur coat to begin with?

Timely article, though.  I was just discussing with a colleague yesterday the origin of the English phrase "There's more than one way to skin a cat."  I'll have to email her this story.

Yeah, if one is going to have fake fur, keeping China out of the supply chain is unfortunately essential to ensure integrity of that fact.

How very droll.

Is your interest in morality entirely limited to conceptualizations popular in 1955?

More or less, yes.

I knew he was mocking me, or as they say in your country, "Takin' a piss".

There are few things more annoying than moralists who don't actually care about morality, and just treat morality like a meaningless ritual.  That's not morality -- that's a fetish.

I'm not takin' the (Tongue) piss.  Your question was dumb, and you know it.  People who think fur coat production is morally problematic care.

In fact, for any product having to meet any requirement, China should be kept out of the supply chain.

People who buy what their kids tell them to buy, I suppose.
Also, of course, I suppose if it were some animal we're more used to seeing furcoats of and less used to petting (sable, say), it wouldn't have been quite so newsworthy. Then again, I suppose sable still fetches higher prices in the commodity market than fake fur.

Not that most people in Germany aren't aware of the concept of catfur gloves on some level, of course.

Originally intended to post this in my "opinion on rabbits" thread, but it fits here as well:

Over Christmas, my father-in-law (b. 1935) mentioned that you didn't see any stray cats in Germany during the late 1940s. Butchers selling rabbits left the head and the feet on the (otherwise skinned) body to ensure buyers it was really a rabbit, not a cat.
If that is true (my father-in-law sometimes has a rather black humour), there should be quite some cat fur to be found in German wardrobes and attics....

I used to call my cat a "Dachhase" all the time. The taste is quite comparable by all accounts.

I shudder to think what the fake fur at Kik* must be made of.
