but because they'd help push political discourse to the left.

Not at all. Parties stuck in ghettos do not move things in any direction.

No, I wouldn't want there to be a strong communist PARTY, but a communist element within the Democratic Party. As it is, we have a center-right and a far-right party. And the reason for that is definitely because there is no left to speak of in America.

HP's.  It's ridiculous for a true leftist to vote for them in any case, let alone when there's a perfectly viable left-wing option like SYRIZA on the table.

Even so, a KKE voter > Golden Dawn voter by a mile

They're actually worse then Golden Dawn, which would only ruin the lives of people it disliked, whereas KKE would ruin the lives of people it liked as well.

The KKE are about as threatening as a six year old with a water pistol. Communism is dead and is never coming back: essentially they're just a strange electoral cult. Golden Shower, however, are an actual menace.
The offspring of that party(Syriza) does have a shot at power though. Toned down communism is still communism.

No it's not.
Yes it is. The end goal is still the same, they're just "progressing" towards it in a more gradual and politically pragmatic fashion.
