Horrible County. The only place I could realistically live in Alabama is on the coast (Mobile and Baldwin counties).

Awful, even ignoring Shelby County v. Holder. The suburban deep south has to be one of my least favorite places in the country, mostly because they tend to be filled with religious fundamentalists, and (though honestly not as bad here are some other places), racists.

I know it was Republican before the rest of the state but...

...anyone else find it somewhat ironic that Shelby County was the only county that Richard Shelby lost in 1992?

IIRC, it's the one of the (if not the) wealthiest and best educated counties in Alabama, and of course a huge point of origin for Republican donors.

I don't get the demonizing-after all, they are mostly educated upper-middle class urban/suburban white people (the kind of demographic that is almost hilariously over-represented in American politics, business, and culture in general, both historically and in the present age).

Are the residents of Shelby County, AL not, at a basic sociocultural level,  similar to many (most?) of the people on, for example....this very forum?

I was thinking of the wrong county, didn't read the thread before voting. Mentally subtract one from FC and add to HP (horrible place), please.
