I would be interested in a cost-analysis of Section 1. I can't see myself supporting Section 2.

I believe this is a pretty straightforward bill. Why should life-saving drugs not be covered by our national health program? What purpose does a private sector drug industry serve, other than the massive accumulation of profit?

They are, only with co-pays for those who can afford them.

Then why not eliminate the co-pays? Means-testing makes for bad public policy.

It helps lessen healthcare costs.  If you don't want to see drug companies have huge profits, wait until all prices are hidden from the users and are 100% subsidized.

This bill eliminates drug companies, so again, that would be an issue.

To supply a good that people need in order to survive. Profit motive provides them with an interest in producing and selling such to the people.

It's not just the profit motive.  People like to be able to have some ownership over the things they create and develop. If they can't do that in medicine, they are likely to go into other fields where they can.

Fine by me. Freeing up otherwise intelligent people in the private sector to focus on other areas of growth is worthwhile, especially if the state can plan and execute the objective more efficiently (which I have no doubts as to)

Vote on Final Passage of the Pharmacare Act of 2013:

Aye (0):
Nay (6): Goldwater, NC Yankee, shua, Spiral, Tmthforu94 and TyriontheImperialist
Abstain (0):

Didn't Vote (4): Bore, Mr. X, Talleyrand and TNF

With six votes in the negative and none in the affirmative, the bill has thus failed without a vote change period being necessary.
