Sixty percent (60%) approve of the job Christie is doing, with 29% who Strongly Approve.

By comparison, 52% approve of the president’s job performance, including 28% who Strongly Approve.

Fifty-five percent (55%) of New Jersey voters still hold a favorable opinion of Christie, down from 63% last October prior to his overwhelming reelection. Forty-four percent (44%) view him unfavorably. This includes 29% with a Very Favorable opinion of the governor and 22% with a Very Unfavorable one.

Among Republicans in the state, 32% say they are more likely to vote for Christie in the 2016 presidential race because of the Fort Lee incident, while 20% are less likely to do so. But 36% of unaffiliated voters say they are less likely to vote for him now.

Less/More likely polls are useless. All that matters is the evolution of actual numbers.

Apparently, Republicans in the state love some mafia-style retaliation against a Dem mayor and commuters ...

And in other news, people with Internet access are more likely to use Google than those without it.

Not necessarily. It's probably more that they accept Christie's explanation that these were people close to him who abused his trust as well as their authority, and he's going to go after those responsible. If so, it's reasonable that they are more impressed with Christie's (at least percieved) active response than they are turned off by peopne close to him so abusing their jobs.

Why would you have any reason to expect that these New Jersey Republicans - already not a majority, in a state where he just won reelection with over 60% - have a sudden rush to support him when they wouldn't have before?

Obviously he won with over 60% because of crossover support from Democrats and Independents.

Do you have any evidence to back up this ... startling ... claim?

It's too early on to poll about this anyway. News like this needs time to sink in.

It's kind of like how the Big Bird debate actually helped Romney among right-wing voters.

Indeed, if there's one thing New Jersey Republicans can get behind, it's sticking it to people they don't like.

It wouldn't surprise me one bit if there's some sort of "lamestream media" component to this.

I've actually noticed on polling on initiatives, when you give the talking points of the opposing side, many supporters of an initiative will say they support it more after hearing the talking points, even when the talking points are totally ideologically neutral.  Crazy stuff.

Not as crazy as people who oppose Obamacare but support the Affordable Care Act.

"Abuse of power is bad, but only when a Democrat does it... Mmm kay?"

It scares me so much that people have yet to understand that the real problem here is "Abuse of power is bad, but only when my enemies do it." Because nowadays, it seems like there's a lot of abuse of power going on all around, and everyone is quick to defend when it's their side in the wrong.

Democrats didn't seem to be very pleased with Obama when Snowden blew the whistle on NSA.

I don't think most of them are actually more likely to support Christie over the bridge scandal, they're just choosing whatever option they perceive as being the best for Republicans. Most people don't pick their political views by a rubric of carefully weighing pros and cons, they base them off an identity. Thus it explains why people would pick that they're more likely to support a politician they were already certain to support anyway.

We've been victimized once again by moderate heroism and the scourge of false equivalency.

I'm still waiting for Republicans to start commenting on Christie's "Chicago style politics."
