If we ignore Watergate (and all the associated 'horrors'), and go simply on his domestic and foreign policies alone, how does Nixon look?

Mixed: some of his policies such as his proposal for UHC and opening up China were fantastic while others such as launching the Drug Wars and the coup in Chile had horrific consequences.

Average, I suppose. Watergate would put him at subpar.

You cannot seperate Watergate from Nixon. The actions he took in that defined him and were the same he took to nearly everything.

I'd say he was average, perhaps good when compared with all of his predecessors and successors.

He was a great foreign policy President, got relations going with China and Russia, got treaties passed and managed to deal with England decently

Domestic besides the economy he wasn't too bad. Eliminated the draft and lowered the voting age amount other things. Economy wise for a little bit he had it in a good correction, it didn't stay that way though.

If it wasn't for Watergate his final term could have been interesting.  If he could have dealt with the recession good enough his Republican successor could have won in 1976, or a Dem like Lloyd Bentson/Ted Kennedy would have become President, no Jimmy Carter.

I say he was a good President but not great due to his last year, he became ignorant to the economy among other things.

Continued the Vietnam War and expanded it into Cambodia, overthrew a democratic socialist government in Chile, considered doing the same in West Germany, used brutal tactics to suppress anti-war demonstrations at home, and nominated two segregationists for the Supreme Court.  Awful.

Watergate was only the tip of the iceberg of his crimes.

That's honestly like half of his stuff. Okay, maybe three quarters, but do you awful Nixon fetishists see what I mean?

I would say Nixon's Congress was excellent, but he himself? Not so much.

Probably the last good Democratic Congress, honestly.
