This legislation removes the requirement in the NEI that any new reactor is a pressurized water reactor utilizing passive cooling systems to allow room for innovators to experiment with alternative reactor designs, such as traveling-wave reactors.

I've always been an advocate for nuclear energy, so I would most likely approve this move. However, I will defer committing until I have heard any potential objections. So long as the alternative reactor designs incorporate the latest safety techniques, I see no issue with this.

As one who has helped this region in nuclear energy, I would like to ask this chamber to pass this law as to help this regions Economy.

This wouldn't affect any safety regulations we've passed - just allow for the development of the slightly-more-efficient boiling water reactors, promote scientific research through allowing pool-type reactors (low-energy reactors common in research), and allow the IDS to serve as a base for future innovations in reactor design, including use of gas-cooled, liquid metal-cooled, sodium-cooled, lead-cooled, and molten salt-cooled reactors, rather than just pressurized water reactors.

Seeing as we have four Legislators in support and none opposed, and seeing as how we have a lot of other bills that will take a lot more time than this one, and seeing as how I'm not a big fan of our excessively formalized legislative procedures (since the Hash reform), I'll open the 24-hour objection period for a final vote now. Y'all got all Sunday to oppose this.

There are a variety of nuclear reactor designs, with some more popular in some countries than others. I think this would provide a good opportunity for us to branch out here.

Fantastic.

I have no objections.

On the Encouraging Nuclear Innovation Act: by the powers vested in me as Emperor of this region, I thus sign it into law.

Be it resolved, X Emperor PiT
