The election is over. Though I will have to do a tabulation in earnest, the winners seem obvious. Congratulations to SWE, Napoleon, Deus, Sirnick, and BaconBacon.

Also, I would like to offer my congratulations to my good friend shua, who was reelected.

Sirnick received 0 first preferences.  Dr. Cynic received three.  So...

I was just about to ask about this.

Official tabulations are important! Smiley

If someone else wants it he/she can have it

OK. All gaffes aside, let's get to certifying this election.

I'm no mathematician, but I used Paul Lockett's STV Counter to come to the conclusion that I have:

Napoleon, Deus, SWE, BaconBacon96, and Dr. Cynic are elected to the Northeast Assembly.

If anyone is interested I can post the actual listing from Lockett's website, but it's tough to read.

Governor Dallasfan65 speaking to a handful of supporters at Aquinnah, Massachusetts.

Greetings, everybody! I have chosen Aquinnah as the site for my farewell address due to being one of the last bastions of public nudity and free expression.

So it has finally come to an end.

While I proposed many things during my tenure as Governor, I would have to say that my chief accomplishment would be signing into law the Group Unions Act. While a controversial piece of legislation, I believe that this bill helped to cultivate the Northeast as a pluralistic and tolerant society, as well as increase individual autonomy in the Northeast. However, the credit for this hardly goes to me, but rather Deus Naturae, who sponsored the legislation. In addition, I have Senators Shua and TNF to thank for granting the Northeast the opportunity to do so in the first place.

I don't much care for gloating. However, I think we've accomplished some significant things while I was Governor: we liberalized our public intoxication laws, we've reformed an oppressive bail system, and we've expanded marriage rights to polyamorous couples. In addition, we've abolished taxation for working-class families while also preserving fiscal responsibility in our region.

I'd like to think we've done a good job. We've preserved stability, despite some significant cuts to revenues. We've expanded personal freedom, made our government more efficient, and had some pretty stimulative debate. Could I have done some things differently? Of course. However, life is not lived through the rear-view mirror. I have served the Northeast for a long time, but this may have been the most enjoyable and productive session that I have ever been a part of. I have zero regrets or compunction about leaving office at this point.

Goodbye, Northeast. I hate to see you go, but I love to watch you leave. Smiley

Pouring one out for the Sirnick/Dallas ticket:

OK. I think the Northeast has had a break from my madness for long enough. Grin

I've decided to throw my hat in the ring for the special election to the Assembly. My vision for the Northeast is a Northeast where...

80 people can get a civil union in a group while they get high on methamphetamine.

Also, in advance I am endorsing sawx for the other seat in the special election - I have a good rapport with him and I am confident that he would bring a good perspective to the Assembly.

Former Governor Dallasfan65 skulking about Boston.

Back to the lab again!

While I have some ambition to run for Northeast Assembly in the August General Election, I've paradoxically pointed out that I have missed the deadline for doing so; thus, I am merely accepting write-ins. I've previously served this region as its Governor and Representative (the latter in numerous cases), so for those unfamiliar with my vision for the Northeast, I've:

- Sought to reform our criminal justice system

- Pursued improvements on our budget procedure/game mechanics

- Strengthened civil liberties, self expression, and promoted the Northeast as a more pluralistic society

- Slashed taxes while protecting the integrity of a solvent welfare state

I find bullet points to be a bit tacky, but so is regurgitation, so I'll let my record stand on its own for the most part. If you find my record of service consistent with your hopes for the Northeast then I ask that you write me in for Northeast Assembly.

Purple heart<3<3

Thank you!

Dallasfan65 speaking to a crowd of supporters in Northampton, Massachusetts.

While I might have a reputation for being more about pleasure than business, my most important initiative is my current budget amendment. Thanks to smart fiscal management (or perhaps generous GM allotments) the Northeast has enjoyed a significant surplus over the past few budget trimesters. However, oversight has been troublesome and there's an air of uncertainty as to how much money we truly have - my hope is that an amendment creating a "Free Cash" fund comprised of the previous surpluses would give us a more accurate appraisal of how much money we have to spare.

My predecessor as Governor, Sirnick, was wise to issue an executive order to this effect. However, it has either expired or was never heeded in the first place. Regardless, we ought to rectify this by codifying into law a balance as to how much money we're operating with. It's possible that we have a cumulative surplus (considering roll-overs from previous budgets) in the neighborhood of $20 billion.

In my (somewhat uneducated) perspective that might actually be bad for our region, since it's tantamount to tucking money under a sofa. During my tenure as Governor, we eliminated taxes for those making less than $50,000 a year.

The question remains: what to do with the surplus? Our region has complied with the federal mandate to combat homelessness, but we were able to do so without accepting their matching funds, thus saving the federal government a billion dollars. If elected, I would like to explore issuing a one-time income grant to our economically disadvantaged, in hopes of lifting many out of poverty and boosting the purchasing power of our middle-class. Details to come.

Regardless, I have much more latitude to do this if I'm in the Assembly as opposed to being out of it, so I ask that you write me in for this election. Cheesy
