As expected, but he's an underdog to Miller and some members of his own family back Miller. Nonetheless he'll be anointed by Sandoval like Hutchison was. Ralston believes the race is Likely D. Stakes are very high: if Laxalt pulls the upset then he derails Miller's fast track to the governorship and becomes a Pub star in his own right. Reid will play here because he won't want a potential successor as NVDP leader being defeated.

First interviews had to do with his personal life, but better to deal with that now.

Jeez...my first thought was "He must be Paul Laxalt's son..." now I find out he's his grandson. I gotta keep up with the times...

Miller's knock so far is that he's been out of state for a while... which is silly given what he did while out of state, plus close family connections. Nonetheless I think policy will be key, not these sorts of sideshows.

True, but they don't do anything. Team Sandoval is the real GOP, and Laxalt's the only Pub statewide candidate who's unopposed in the primary. He needs coin and infrastructure to beat Miller. Alas, we'll have to wait till April to see what happens there.

The current AG Catherine Cortez Masto is my grandfather's first cousin's daughter.  Fun story.

Cortez Masto has suffered a severe backlash for her brief defending the constitutional SSM ban, which among other things cited anti-bigamy and incest laws. To boot, she could've demurred from filing a brief. On Friday she announced she's reconsidering, and Reid has made his disappointment known. Ralston said she's interested in a Senate seat, so this may have future political consequences. No reaction from the candidates so far as I can tell, though I assume Miller's pro-SSM. Laxalt's views aren't a secret.

Both candidates state their predictable opinions on SSM.

Laxalt's having a major DC fundraiser at the same hotel where Reid lives.
