Facing a recurrence of cancer, U.S. Senator Tom Coburn (R-OK) announcing he'll resign following the end of this year's legislative session and will not finish out the remainder of his 2nd term, which was supposed to have ended in 2016.

Special election expected to take place and look for down ballot officeholders to run for Coburn's Senate seat
