90% Liberal, 10% Conservative. Since I interpret this quiz as a measure of the liberalism/conservatism of one's personality, not one's politics, I will say that this test is fairly accurate. I definitely have conservative tendencies, but I actively suppress most of them.

I'm guessing a lot of what backs this quiz up is just observational data that has no standing in the real world. Liberals on average are more likely than not to be more educated than conservatives, so obviously they'd prefer to watch documentaries over action flicks, or go to a museum than spend time downtown. Conservatives are more likely to be patriotic than liberals, so if you're proud of your country's history, you are more likely to be conservative. It's dumb.

I said I wanted to do both of those things and got 77% liberal.

It found I am 71% liberal, which doesn't match my politics at all. What it does show is how the quiz thinks that liberalism correlates to academic/intellectual preferences. For example I had these "liberal" responses:

all of which could easily apply to most of my academic colleagues. Flip them the other way and I'd be about 80% conservative.

Outside of politics, liberalism and conservatism also reflect our everyday values, so I guess this is what this quiz is trying to predict. I mean, don't you think there are a lot of people who claim to be liberal or conservative because they feel pressure from people around them to lean a certain way but might actually be the opposite?

Yes. 89% conservative, which is pretty reflective of my personality, though doesn't necessarily always translate to my political beliefs (just a lot). I can see, though, why it would get very inaccurate results for people. My personality just tends to blend very well with my ideology.

We're primed how to respond here too though. It's blatantly obvious they would put cats as liberal and dogs as conservative when in reality it has 0 to do with either policy or values. And obviously the "cuisine mix" "art museum over times square" is clear which side is liberal and which is conservative. It's basically just relying on stereotypes:

"If you're a liberal, you're a cat loving hipster who spends a lot of time on the internet in their parents' basement while trying to further your faltering career as an artist."

"If you're a conservative, you're a dog loving technologically impaired meathead who is disgusted by other cultures."

Ted Cruz is an authority, mind you. So is John Boehner. Do you really want kids to respect them? Or rather to question their authority?
If people wouldn't have made the choice to question other people's authority, we'd still be in the Middle Ages today. Which would't be a very nice place to be I assume.

Whereas Jonathan Haidt is brilliant, however, the quiz is not.
