Other than Kenya, most of Bushie's obsessions are identical to those of many Americans. That's why Update is such a strong commentary on modern society.

^^^^^ Seriously. He is a very real caricature of the American male. Sports, burgers, all kinds of other fried food, struggles with porn/brief relaxations.

Bushie's obsessions are normal...for a 60-year old man that still possesses child-like wonderment and a sense of naivete, which is a personality type of no fewer than millions of other red-blooded Americans. BRTD's obsessions are so niche that I can't pin down any measurable segment of the population that'd share them.

BRTD by a country mile. I live in a part of the country that by rights should be ground zero for BRTD's rough type (except maybe for not being urban enough), and I still run into more Bushies.

That reminded me to look up who's winning in Ingress in Nathan's area. Looks like the Resistance have a strong advantage in the northern part of Amherst but are kind of shut out south of the Fine Arts Center and the Clark Memorial, and the Enlightened are controlling everywhere in Northampton and Easthampton. Ugh.

Are the Enlightened more conventionally 'hipster' in general? Because that's one of the two possibilities that immediately comes to mind when I hear about one group controlling Amherst Center, Northampton, and Easthampton and another, opposed group controlling North Amherst, and I doubt the Enlightened are wealthy property developers.

The stereotypes of the two groups (with the obvious caveat that there are hordes of exceptions) is that the Enlightened to be more like yuppies, urban professionals, and grad students (hence that they were able to put up a solid fight and often retain control of downtown Minneapolis a couple months ago while they were being utterly dominated in almost every other part of the metro because so many of them worked there), while the Resistance tend to consist more of blue collar workers, working class urban people (and by this I'm talking more about the Occupy Wall Street crew than what people think of as "white ethnics") and undergrad students (unless it's a prestigious private college.) So it kind of depends on the type of "hipster" we're talking about. To put things into perspective (though this is probably more because of logistical reasons in Brooklyn than the stereotypes), Williamsburg is Resistance and Park Slope is Enlightened.

Oh and for some reason blacks and Asians = Enlightened and Hispanics = Resistance is another stereotype. (Though this only applies to the US, there are Resistance strongholds in Asia, most notably Tokyo, and Enlightened strongholds in South America.)

I put groups that I'd associate with what you're describing as Enlightened parts of my area in italics and groups that I'd associate with what you're describing as Resistance parts of my area in boldface.

Just out of the curiosity of someone who is not an Android user, BRTD, what does western Cuyahoga County look like?

BRTD's are weirder. To his credit, they're also healthier.

The Enlightened are dominating, yeah -- though I wonder why in Avon Lake of all places you can see the Resistance resisting. I suppose as you get farther from city centers into suburbs and rural areas, increasingly just one or a few players who support one faction or another can determine which way an area goes -- or am I wrong?

Yeah, I mean, it seems like if it weren't for Ingress he'd probably get out a lot less, certainly get out of the Twin Cities a lot less.

Heck, I'd play Ingress if I had a phone. What does WNC look like?

It's a pretty good game. Kind of like a technological version of capture the flag, but on a much larger scale.

Considering that before Ingress I'd hardly ever leave even the actual cities except for work (and I work in a very inner suburb) and if I was visiting family this is quite true. For that matter I've also gone to plenty of places within the Twin Cities I otherwise never would've, and I've noticed many things I never did before even in places I did go to earlier...including in my own neighborhood.
