What is Post-Modern in this context? I haven't a clue.

The rest of them make sense. New Coalition Democrat I took to be kind of a Blue Dog or maybe conservative on this, more liberal on that, etc. It looks like that's what it is.

Post-Modern is basically your Third Wayers.  New Coalition Dem is not so much Blue Dog- it's largely made up of minorities instead, who are a good deal more religious (and therefore socially conservative) than your average white liberal- but are more genuinely left on things like race, immigration and redistribution than what is usually described as "Blue Dogs".

I clock in as a "libertarian" even though I am not a libertarian, so the typology sucks in my opinion. And a lot of the questions were way over the top Manichean; in my world, what I see are a lot of shades of gray, along with the blacks and the whites.

I agree, the questions force you into a position where you might have a different one to the options.

  Solid Liberals
14% OF THE PUBLIC
What They Believe
Strongly pro-government and very liberal on a broad range of issues - I'm not pro-Government, more that I think it does have strengths in the delivery of services
Very supportive of regulation, environmental protection and government assistance to the poor - yup
One of the most secular groups; 59% say that religion is not that important to them - indeed
Supportive of the country's growing racial and ethnic diversity - That I do
Two-thirds disagree with the Tea Party - they disgust me

Who They Are
Highly politically engaged - well, I'm here aren't I?
75% are Democrats - well, I'd vote for them
Concentrated in the Northeast and West - eh...
57% are female - nup
Best educated of the groups: 49% hold at least a bachelor's degree and 27% have post-graduate experience - mmhmm
A third regularly listen to NPR, about two-in-ten regularly watch The Daily Show and read The New York Times - I do all of those things... :S
59% have a passport - yup
42% regularly buy organic foods - not so much 'organic' but I look to RSCPA approved animal products
21% are first or second generation Americans - Overall, no.

Staunch conservative, but I disagreed with most of the answers I chose.  They didn't have enough answers to choose from.

Got solid liberal.

Solid Liberals

14% of the public
What They Believe

Strongly pro-government and very liberal on a broad range of issues - wouldn't really call myself 'pro-government', but unlike some it does play an important role in most people's lives.
Very supportive of regulation, environmental protection and government assistance to the poor - mostly yes
One of the most secular groups; 59% say that religion is not that important to them - yes
Supportive of the country's growing racial and ethnic diversity - yes
Two-thirds disagree with the Tea Party - yes

Who They Are

Highly politically engaged - well, I'm here?
75% are Democrats - I would if I were American.
Concentrated in the Northeast and West -
    57% are female - no
Best educated of the groups: 49% hold at least a bachelor's degree and 27% have post-graduate experience - not yet.
A third regularly listen to NPR, about two-in-ten regularly watch The Daily Show and read The New York Times - not really, sorta follow Australian equivalents.
    59% have a passport - yes
42% regularly buy organic foods - no
21% are first or second generation Americans - not American Tongue At least fourth generation wrt my country anyway.

Staunch conservative, although having 3-4 answers a question as opposed to 2 would have been better.

This happened to me, and I definitely don't identify as a libertarian.

Oh! Thanks, makes sense. It would be interesting to see someone post the hallmarks of P-M.

I fit Solid Liberal pretty well.

I scored as Libertarian. Not entirely accurate, but I suppose it's the closest out of all of them.

Unsurprisingly, solid liberal. I'm mostly a stereotype in terms of beliefs, though I wouldn't consider myself pro-government per se (although definitely not anti-government).

Post-modern. Looks about right. Seems to combine the best parts of solid liberalism with some libertarian principles.

I remember when you were still a sorta liberal... like... a banana that still has just a bit of green.  Now you've ripened into a beautiful yellow banana.  Next you'll get brown spots and before you know it you'll transform into a beautiful loaf of banana bread.

I can think of no better compliment than being a nice loaf of banana bread Smiley

I got Staunch Conservative, which is at least a reasonable answer for me, but I agree the quiz is not worded particularly well.
